Bolivar Gold Medal

I was wondering about some information on these cigars. I just smoked one and it wasnt like any other Boli that I've had. It came from an 07 box and from what I've read they are pretty green but the RC's I've had from the same year are pretty good. I don't know if it is different wrapper but they smell and look different. I don't want to give up on them as Boli is my favorite marca. Thanks for any help.

But just to take a blind stab at it, I'd guess the GM is blended quite differently than the RC.

No prob Colt. I just found that the first 30 min or so was very bland, alittle creamy, but not much really there. then it went to a muddled earthy flavor, but the strength was still not there. The finish was very ammonia and earthy. It wasnt a bad cigar but like i said not what I was excpectiing. Thanks again.

That sounds like a very young cigar showing it's youth - as you put it, green.

I have some in storage, but have not tried one as yet - and now I'm in no rush

to do so

Put them away, and forget you have them for a while - hopefully we'll all be

rewarded.

P.S. I think this helps show how a different blend, and different tobaccos, can make for a different

cigar - even from the same marque. Smoke your RCs now, and save the GMs for later.:-)

I tried one last year and experienced the same profile as you describe. Have not had one since then. I think they are long haulers and will be great in a few years!

In my opinion, these wont be ready to smoke for years. I have 2 boxes of 06, 4 of 07 and 1 box of 08 coming. I think they show promise, but the flavors are still muted, with an overly bitter taste near the end. I think in 5 years, these will turn into great smokes.

Did it settle for 30 days if you received them via airmail and was it kept at 65% RH within a reasonable temp? I have found that muddled flavor can be helped by perfect storage.

Good cigars that will improve with age, but never be in the same league as the old BGMs. 06 BCEs are stronger & smoking nicely now.

I just smoked a Bolivar Gold Medal a couple of days ago and enjoyed it tremendously! I totally agree with several comments made thus far:

1. They need to rest no less than 60 days after arrival.

2. These BGM in my opinion are going to get better with 5 years of age.

3. They should be kept at 63%-65%rh and then dry boxed for 2 day before smoking.

Each of the BGM's that I have smoked of the 06 & 07 codes while still showing their youth have also shown rich earth, strong leather, spicey green peppers and sweet red peppers, peat and all in all a truly lovely cigar to smoke right now as well as a keeper for the future!

Seems I am in the minority here, but I absolutely love the 07s I have been smoking. To me they have a certain sizzle that I just adore. However, I have not really had a GBM really aged, so I cannot say which is better.
