Well, my 3 week trip turned into 10+ weeks. Got back a couple of weeks ago and haven't had a chance to post. The experience was, to say the least, surreal. The place was a bit scary at first as I was in a more primitive part of India. It is very different, and certainly very dirty by American standards, but after a while I realized just how ingenious the Indian people are. They are very friendly and after a while I felt very comfortable there.

I'm leaving for Ireland on Thursday, so I'll try to post a bit more when I get back. Just wanted to say hi to everyone. Looks like Rob is having a great time in Cuba. Lisa, sorry I missed saying happy birthday.

See you again in a couple of weeks.

G'day Shebly,

We actually own an IT company in India, in Kolkata to be more specific. India is a world of its own and it depends where you are going in india the culture and the customs will change accordingly.

Business in India and the way it's conducted is very different to what you might see it, what you have been doing in the past business wise in the states will not be applied in India. The people there are very smart but have no business sense most of the time and will jab ya when they have a chance.

My suggestion to you is be yourself, be professoinal and try to undertand why they do things a certain way. Make sure you find some westerns and be friend them because you will need a good glass of single malt and a good cigar after a hard day at work :cigar: ... I will be going to India next month if you are around we will catch up.

Again the people in general are amazing and veryyyyy ffriendly! they will go out of their way for you just make sure you do not offend them and help them understand why sometimes you can't eat certain food or you can do certain things dont just say NO thank yuu.

Cheers,

Elie.

Actually, you probably didn't read all the way down, but I just got back a while ago after 10 weeks in India. I was not in Delhi, I was in the northeastern region (Uttarakhand) which is much more primitive than the tourist and financial centers. The people there are inherent negotiators, although they will never let you know it. As such, it's difficult to get the whole story out of them. It is part of the culture. It does get in the way of doing business because they rarely seem to be able to see past next week. They are, as you say, very friendly and as a white American I was given a great amount of respect.

There was no night life (or alcohol, or cigars) as the area was a religious retreat for Indians. I was just a few minutes from Har Ki Pouri and the area is strictly vegetarian. All in all it was a great experience. I will be going back every few months, hopefully not longer than 3 or 4 weeks at a time.

Hi Shelby,

How long will you be in Ireland and where will you be travelling? If you're interested in meeting up for a pint of Guinness and a cigar let me know.

Harry
