Cohiba 35th Anniversario Piamide

Recommended Posts

My father in law was with a friend of his the other day and his friend handed him one of these which I am now "holding" for him in my humidor.

Based on the provider of the cigar, the label, and the look of the cigar itself I am convinced it is the genuine article. This guy really knows his cigars and has quite the collection.

My questions to the group are how rare is this cigar? I can't even find a picture of it on the net, only mention of it. When would this cigar be ready to smoke and what would the flavor profile be? If purchasable what kind of cost would this carry?

Las but not least what should I say to my father in law in order to convince him to let me smoke it?:-D

Thanks for all your help.

Jay,

Can you take a photo of the cigar and post it here? The reason I am asking is that there have been a very large amount of Fake 35th Cohiba Anniversary cigars and especially around large areas in the north east and west coast. While I am saying that the sample you have is or is not, the likeihood is greater to not be authentic than for it to be the real deal.

I have a handful of these I got from different places. I would say they are on the rarer side, but not all too uncommon. They can be found if you are looking in the right places. They are about 8 years old, so they should be ready to smoke :-D

You could always do the switcheroo on the bands and maybe he would never know ;-)

I do plan on taking pics of it and posting them when I get home later. What I can tell you is that it has 2 different colored wrappers like a candy cane the darker one not being absurdly dark like the fake 40th anniversary pic I found on Google but kind of blending together if that makes sense. Since it was given to him and he didn't buy it I'm more curious but would also like to verify authenticity.

» Sorry to say that the variation in wrapper color sounds indicative of

» counterfeits...

Yes - there can be slight color variances in a single wrapper that might give a slight barber pole effect,

but if it truly has two wrappers....

It's one wrapper I guess it's what you are calling a barber pole. I will post pics when I have a chance but if anyone can post a pic of a real one it would help me as well.

Jay there is a link above or I'll also post it here for you.

http://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/brand.asp...ersario_Humidor

It shows a Photo of the Humidor and the contents. While it does not have a photo of the Piramide, there should not have any appearence of looking like a "Barber Pole", which looks like a two tone striped cigar.

While even if it is a "Barber Pole", while it would not be an Authentic Habanos, it could still be a tasty cigar. Just not a Habanos. If that is the case, let the old man smoke it! :rotfl:

This whole counterfeiting thing is annoying and confusing.

I can't wait to get my goody bag I have on order from EL Prez so I don't have to worry about authenticity.

Edit: Oops, skipped right over reading the part where you mentioned that it doesn't look like these . . .

Are you sure it's not a 40th?

Those are fakes, by the way. While I'd reserve final judgment until seeing yours (or even smoking it, lol), it's not looking good for these after you mentioned barber pole wrapper.

Cant believe the link to the other forum -- even after they see this hideous excuse for a cigar they debate if its real or not. Why is this so hard? Cubans dont need to create visual 'candy' by selling barber pole cigars, its all in their taste.

Yeah definitely looks better than those, but I'm suspecting more and more that it is a fake.

One positive from all this Jay: Your're on the right place to ask questions (where you'll get knowledgeable, informative, truthful answers) and once you sort out the source of the cigars that you're smoking (which it would seem that you have with El Prez) then you won't have to worry anymore about authenticity, you can just relax and enjoy your cigars! That peace of mind is worth a lot.

Jrow,

I can post a picture of an authentic 35th Anniv Cohiba Piramides, if you need. It is not even close to the barber pole cigars previously listed...

Cheers,

DC

Also, as far as I know, there is no box of Cohiba Piramides from the 35th Anniv. There is a humidor which is rare, and contains several of these piamides, as well as several other sizes/vitolas. Let us know if you find some!

Cheers,

DC

Jay don't get too down. Many here have purchased fakes at some time over the years (or have had friends who have done so) so it is no slight whatsoever.

Let us have some photo's of your box of cigars. Sure, they are not legitimate but it may help others to identify.

Cheers mate.

If you could post the picture I'd appreciate it. I only have the 1 cigar and fortunately it was given to me so I didn't lay out any cash. I'm of the opinion it's a fake but would like to try and compare it to a pic of the real thing.

I'm pretty sure it's a fugazi as well. I meant to post them last night, but family duties put the kibosh on that idea. I'll try to post them tonight. I'd be interested in the opinions of the group.

Jayro-

Just go to the link Colt posted previously:

http://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/brand.asp...ersario_Humidor

Trevor's site does not have a close-up of the 35th Piramide, but it does show the Piramide and a close up of a Robusto. The band is the same on both, but the Piramide is of course, a Piramide.

Cheers,

Peter
