CharlieG Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Mostly for the Florida folks, but anyone who's traveled a bit may have some insight. . . I have to be in Orlando on business over a couple of nights later this month. Have to present at a conference and am not enamored of the idea of being stranded at the hotel complex. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations/input on any places to enjoy a relaxing smoke and a cocktail or two. Will be traveling with a selection of El Prez' finest, so it's more about beverage selection and vibe than selection. Tks - CG
Tampa1257 Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 The best place I know of and have been there quite a few times is: Corona Cigars Co. http://www.coronacigar.com/ 7792 W Sand Lake Rd Orlando, FL 32819 (407) 248-1212 The entire store is a walk in humidor. They have a nice seatings area inside as well as outside where you can observe the Talent. Inside has a nice bar that serves beer and wine, I do not remember liquer being served. On any given night you might see and have an opportunity to speak with Avo Uvezian who makes this cigar shop his personal favorite and home cigar lounge. I highly recommend this if you are looking for a night out with cigars.

I'd read about the place a few times, but tend to be skeptical. They're about 10 minutes from the job site, and it looks like a solid place to have a rum or two while unwinding. Hope to get down to Tampa/St. Pete again fairly soon on business. Thanks again - CG

Wonderful place with a HUGE amount of smokes. Also, they serve beer, wine, and port. Buckets of beers are pretty reasonably priced, and the smokes are priced a smidge high but not terribly so. Went there three nights and had a blast! Don

If you have a choice, stay in the downtown area close to Orange Ave and Church Street Station. Good restaurants in that area and most importatntly, Corona Cigar recently opened a Diamond Crown Cigar Lounge in the Downtown/Orange Ave location. Great selection of single malts, single barrel and small batch bourbons, rums, cognac, ect. I always bring my own smokes and sit outside on the covered patio in the evening. If you are lucky, a storm will roll in and bring a cool breeze in tow. The inside of the lounge isn't so bad either and there is usually some eye candy there as well. They also serve a OK cuban sandwich which works for lunch so you can accompany with a smoke. The Sand Lake(only wine and beer) location is a nice store as well, but the Orange Ave store is a sweet place to enjoy a smoke.
Gonz Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Another vote here for Corona. But with a caveat. They have a great lounge at all three locations, but they pay for that lounge by gouging on their HTF Fuente products. I was there last week and picked up several boxes of cigars, but I was appalled at their prices on Anejos ($15+ per stick) and some Untold Stories ($20ish I think). Check their website for the location closest to you. I believe the downtown location is the only one with a liquor license, the other two only offer beer and wine/port. But their beer selection is outstanding, things you won't find anywhere else, so it's what I would choose anyhow. And generally live entertainment on weekends, if you're lucky you can even catch Avo on the piano. ps - There is a Cigar Rights of America event in Orlando on the 21st or 22nd I believe, just in case you're in town for that. Definitely worth going if you're there.

That's really cool. Before I found the joys of Cuban cigars, I used to be a sucker for the Avo #3s and also the Avo XO Maestoso. I always enjoyed reading CA articles about him. He seems like he'd be a delight -- especially if he also tickles the ivories.
