Loki Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 Hey is that a cuban? I was in the pub the other night (not every night) and is it just me or is there always an annoying drunk who just can't resist either yelling across the bar or staggering up to you and utters: Hey is that a Cuban! just as you light up. I must vent. I CAN'T STAND THIS KINDA GUY! Any one had a similar experience? Or maybe just a subject that you need to vent on. Maybe we should start an official venting/pet peave thread.
GoatLocker Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 LOL, ya gotta love those guys... Or the ones who want to check out your Cuban cigar because "it must be a fake" :-| :-( I just remove the band these days to keep the bozo's away.

I just say no to the Drunk.....even if the person I usually smoke cigars with always smokes cuban...so we just laugh at his discomfort and at the dejection in his face when he leaves .....because we know we smoke cuban.
Tampa1257 Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 LOL, I just look at them and say "Do I look Cuban to you? Hell, last time I checked, I'm Cherokee" Big difference, and when they look all confused, I turn away as if to dismiss them and that usually works. I'm a fairly large man, burly one might say, having a couple of drinks, smoking a cigar, ya think they want to piss me off? LOL, I'm a mild mannored man, but have earned my battle scars!
1f1fan Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 LOL I have not had that happen yet....but I did have some dude try and sell me Cuban cigars (he was friends with a good friend of mine) I told my buddy thats like a street corner pusher trying to sell an 8 ball to Pablo Escobar!
wasch_24 Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 I haven't had that happen in public but I recently went home for my ten year class reunion with a travelador filled with about 20 smokes and my childhood friend was looking at them and said "Hey, are any of these Cubans?" I tried not to laugh and just chuckled...they were all cubans. I gave him one and he was getting a such a buzz he had to put it down halfway through and take a break. He's been smoking cigarettes for like 8 years and he got laid out by a 98 ERdM PC. :-) And no, he was not inhaling...I made it clear not to when lighting it.

I usually find cigarette smokers have a pretty high tolerance for nicotine.
jay8354 Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 Haven't had that experience yet but then Sydney is a pretty relaxed place. As for the Cigarette smokers, I usually find them to get laid out by a cigar. Not to mention, some of them forget not to inhale. :-D
harwellplant Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 the thing that pisses me off is the type of guy that acts like you are trying to be some arrogant, spoiled elitist for smoking cuban cigars.
Guest crossbow Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 » the thing that pisses me off is the type of guy that acts like you are » trying to be some arrogant, spoiled elitist for smoking cuban cigars. You are right harwell, so If it was me, I'd act like the spoiled elitist he thinks me to be. If he does complain about my smoking then I guess I will comply by putting out the cigar....................... ...on his forehead.:-D
Mel Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 This just happened to me on Sat. at the Nascar race in Charolette NC. I gave the bloke a Boli PC and he thought I was the greatest. He smoked that thing down to the shortest nub I have ever seen. If I detect an off attitude they will be responded to appropriately but if there is genuine interest I have been known to be generous. Some man gifted me my first Cuban when I questioned him about his cigar. There isa a time to pass the torch man. Rob has been the richer since that day.;-)
smk819 Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 Where do you guys get these Cuban Cigars? I understand there is an embargo in the US.
Colt45 Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 There are very few places near me that allow smoking any more, but my most recent experience was just the opposite - more like Mel's..... A few weeks back, I had a Saturday to myself, so I took a road trip to a place that I knew allowed smoking on the lawn area of their outdoor bar. While ordering my drink, I double checked to see that they still allowed smoking, and a gentleman next to me asked what I was smoking. I got my drink and offered him a cigar. He was there with a lovely woman, also a smoker, and they chose a PLPC to share. We took our drinks and cigars (I had a VR Unicos) to a couple of lawn tables. We shared a great day, interesting conversation, and a beautiful view of the Atlantic ocean. So in my case, it was cigars bringing people together.
Maverick Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 Last Year at the Gold Coast Indy Carnival I had a rather interesting experience with a looser in a VB Beer shirt. I was in the Licensed area enjoying a Montecristo 1 and we were relaxing, when a Cigarette smoking looser walks up to tell me to put out the smoke because it was annoying him. I cant stand these 40 year old freaks, He said if I didnt put it out he would push his smoke into my eye. I looked at him and said "How old are you? Why dont you go hug your kids?" I Cant stand these ignorant pricks, I was smoking a lovely cigar that costs more than he makes in an hour. I am not a snob but I tell you the world would be a better place without these people. I am all for people who dont like cigars, I will never light up without everyone around being ok with it, but the kind of people who have no grasp on social skills get me so angry. I was smoking with another FOH member who wouldnt be so friendly to those kind of people. So I took my smoke elsewhere. I am sure you all have had similar experiences? Ross...

I was in a brew pub not too far from Princeton University minding my own business having a pint and decided to light up a cigar. Hell, it was a brew pub. I was instantly accosted by the manager " No cigar smoking allowed" granted some woman at the next table was smoking a nasty, stinky clove cigarette. The double standard is alive and well. I got up and skipped out on my bar tab, screw'em!
JMH Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 Ugh I hate the cigarette smoking double standard (even though I used to smoke cigarettes, and sort of still do) So many pubs smell like someone set a couple of newspapers on fire to stink out the place. Mmmm gotta love the smoke from all the paper on those cigarettes It's almost as if people have forgotten what tobacco smoke actually smells like.
Maverick Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 In Brisbane I only really smoke at the Treasury Casino in the Premiers Lounge. They are the only place I feel comfortable. I know there are lots of cigar friendly places, but I dont want to have to spend a weeks wages just to buy a beer. Plus I dont drive a Porsche or BMW so I feel out of place at many places. My Nissan Pulsar lacks in the credability department. I support the Governments ban on Cigarette smoking, I just want them to exclude Cigar smoking. I am sure that all the politicians sit in their exclusive little clubs (a.k.a. QLD CLUB) and smoke cigar. If anyone on the board is a member of said exclusive club, no offense meant. Ross...

I'm sorry man. Next time just give me one and tell me to go sit down, smoke, have another drink and be quiet. If that doesn't work try giving me two.
