» Burn was ok, but wrapper refused to combust at times.

My problem as well. Which is why I looked at it closely and thought it was too thick for a cohiba.

After reading all the reviews I am glad I was not too far off and actually got the same flavors as many others. :-D

The burn was off on this cigar. I must say it ws young being a May 07 so lets forgive that little discrepancy for the time being.

What I really enjoyed about this cigar was the medium (and full at times) bodied richness. To me there wasinterspersed through its length honey, cocoa, pure tobacco. I am surprised in one way that some pointed to a lack of complexity but then again I am aware of variations even within a box particularly (but not exclusively) amongst young cigars.

I think this cigar will age into a classic and I have been a big fan of them throughout 2007. To me they are amongst the two finest of their line in terms of recent production cigars.

had seen someone in the earlier post said they looked at it and immediately thought Siglo IV. I compared it with every Siglo IV I own and it was noticeably, if marginally, shorter than all of them. Yet it appeared to have a similar ring gauge. Yes, I know – hand made product and all so going with the coronas gordas (and I am assuming that, unlike his effort to amusing himself a year or so ago, this time I got the same cigar as everyone else).

That hurts Ken

How many Siglo IV did you actually compare it to? Knowing you.....you compared to a Siglo VI :-D

June 08 Blind Cigar Review

Length – approximately 14cm. Ring Gauge 46ish.

Firstly I would like to thank Rob and FOH for the opportunity to partake in the tasting. It was lots of fun.

When the cigar first arrived, at first glance, I would have said it looked like a Siglo IV. Great construction. Beautiful dark wrapper, not oily but had a definite sheen. Well made. A pleasure to look at. A little rough to the touch. It was tightly rolled, and had good weight in hand. The cigar was perfectly round, no box press visible.

I used my Palio to take off just the cap, presenting a nice firm draw. Pre light flavours were of mild tobacco – that’s all. In fact the cigar smelt better than it tasted.

I had dry boxed the cigar for a couple of days, wanting to try and make up for the fact that it had not had much time to settle in my humidor which I keep at 63%RH.

It lit easily. Initially all that was present was lots of mild tobacco. Not much flavour at all. As it settled I was able to pick up a touch of berry and a hint of sweetness. Then it was gone, and all this was within the first 4 draws. Then as the cigar progressed through the first third I was aware of muted and closed in flavours. The cigar was screaming you should not be smoking me now, come back in 6 months.

Throughout the entire smoke I found the overall flavour spectrum closed in and confused and all over the place. It momentarily showed some RyJ flavours, then I was certain I was experiencing the darkness of the SLR Regios. Then by halfway all that I could taste was burnt nuts. And earth. And tobacco. And that is how it remained, until it showed some bitterness at the end.

And then I recognised that I was appreciating the cigar, but not actually enjoying it.

I would have put this cigar down if I was not reviewing it. It was simply not what I would choose to smoke.

I found it to offer mixed signals, but ultimately its overwhelming blank tobacco flavours were reminiscent of an Upmann. I do think that this cigar will evolve and have a lot more to offer.

At a guess, I would say late 06 early 07 Upmann Magnum 46.
