Sorry about the CS, a favourite of mine, but seriously lacking consistency. The above interested me, I had been wondering how the weather conditions at the time of rolling affected the cigars. Anyone know any more about it?

This is another aspect I normally wouldn't consider and now will try to keep in mind.

Thanks for the candid review.

I know that many people truly love this cigar, My personal experience with the ERDM Choix Supreme has always been duplicated by Rob's. I have just never had one that I enjoyed.:-(

I had one yesterday from an '07 box. I did not have the same experience. My smoke started out smooth and creamy, and lasted throughout the smoke even developing into a sweet profile midway through. Not once did I get the young taste Rob's describing. It was my first ERDM Choix, but I enjoyed it enough to say I will have a few more in the future. But hey, to each his own, right?

Don't get me wrong Billy I have had plenty of good to very good ERDMCX from 06/07.

This box is just a dog. The demon of blend consistency strikes again. After I smoked the two cigars I sat back and wondered what were the tell tale signs pre smoking that would have given me an indication of what was to come?

Lack of aroma at cold comes to mind. The foot of the cigar was also too open.

Sorry Prez. but that is one UGLY lookiing cigar. As I look at the foot seems like the roller was a rookie almost looks like the cigar is to dry.

Arlo...some of the best sex I have ever had (pre marriage :lookaround: ) is with plain Jane women ;-)

Some of my finest cigar moments have been with cigars I kept for myself because I would be embarrassed to hand to friends..... or Ken.

When I do my tastings I choose from what is open and at hand. I generally go for the ugliest stick remaining in the box because some punter will probably end up buying it. Often as not I am surprised.

Man you are right about that.....aweful

I have been smoking some of these from an August 2006 box and have been pretty happy with them. That sucks to have an entire box of duds

Put them away and they should improve. Not all is hopefully lost. I could have improved the smoking experience of this cigar by dryboxing it for a week. Try it and it may assist your smoking experience if you are locked into smoking them now.

Alternatively, next order with your vendor, e-mail them prior to your selection. Find out what is smoking well now. If they are noy prepared to give you sensible advice then shop around until someone is.

El Rey Del Mundo Choix Supreme BLP JUL 07

I will cut to the chase. I was very disappointed with this cigar.

I initially tried one from this box while cooking the Friday afternoon BBQ here at Czar House. Visually it was fine with a nice Colorado wrapper and good construction but the draw was a little too easy for my liking. Almost no aroma at cold and only the simplest of tobacco flavours on the tongue when I clipped the cap and tested the draw.

The cigar lit and burnt very well. Yet the flavours never developed outside of a mundane light medium tobacco. Certainly not offensive but all the flavour complexity of a rice cake. I had previously had in the day a good 05 Epicure No 1 so I decided to give another Choix Supreme a go come Monday morning.

This morning I fired up a second Choix from the same box. This one had the draw of a wind tunnel and the initial ½ inch was so ghastly (green/ammonia/ poorly fermented) that I wanted to pitch it off the deck. I persisted for the sake of the review and it did improve from ghastly to mind numbingly boring. The good news was that the astringency on the palate disappeared to be replaced by simple tobacco flavours experienced in the first cigar Friday.

This is perhaps the poorest cigar I have had this year. Both were from the same July 07 box which raises questions for me as to how were the conditions at the time of rolling. I would take a guess that it had been raining for a week in Havana and stinking hot in the middle of summer. The leaf was overly moist at the time of rolling and hence the “green” tasting nature of the tobacco.

I have had so many good Choix Supreme of late and this was a disappointment that I would struggle to rate in the early 80’s.
