Ken Gargett Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 Was going to do a virtual tasting note and see if anyone could pick this but then I thought that without pics, and because I found it quite different to what I expected, that there was little point. And one person doing those annoying virtual tastings is surely enough. Rob very kindly gave this to me to review recently. He had loved them and was looking to see if others did as well – I guess I was an obvious target as he knows that I have been a big fan of the Siglo VI's since day one. I have some of the first releases locked away so was fascinating to take a look at how they were progressing and if I thought that they were as good as Rob found them to be. Smoked it while watching the Wallabies first game under the new coach. Fortunately, the cigar was better than the Wallabies' performance though a win is a win. Matched it with the Macallan Elegancia I mentioned elsewhere and then the Woodford Reserve Bourbon. I found the latter a much better match. Appearance was of immaculate construction, light brown colour and even cold, enticing aromas with a hint of warm earth and old leather. Immediate impression on lighting was much more power than expected. There was also a little bitterness. A few alarm bells but still obvious quality here. Lots of dense smoke, full of flavour. Earth, spice, a very pleasant light herbal touch. The burn was very good, consistent though a reasonable pace. Burn was even right through and the cone was a little stubby one. The overriding impression was that this was simply far too young, something I have not associated with other Sig VI's. That little touch of bitterness kept in there. It was also burning a little quick for what I would have expected. The flavours evolved into honey and nutmeg and a touch of pepper, it was all a lovely creamy smoke, reasonably complex. Curious cigar. Thoroughly enjoyable in many ways but that bitterness never left it and was a negative. It burnt a little quicker than expected but it really did seem as though it was still far too young. I'd go 91 at the moment with huge potential, provided it can throw the bitterness.
jdbrown Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 The 03 I tasted last week did not have any hint of bitterness. Sounds like Rob gave you an early 08. :-P

aavkk Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 the first one of mine out of an LLN AGO 03 box was spectacular without any bitterness as well. Interesting.
Ken Gargett Posted June 15, 2008 Author Posted June 15, 2008 i should perhaps add that i have never encountered any bitterness on the siglo vi, at least as far as i can recall, in either young or old examples. and i have got through quite a lot of them.
Boston Mike Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 I only have one single Sig VI from 03. I do not want to waste it. Please let me know when it's definitely ready to smoke. I can't wait!!!!!
