Reuters reports:

"Habanos S.A reported today that in conjuction with Hugo Boss A.G, they are releasing the Cohiba Cologne for men. Meant to evoke the beautiful scents of the morning mist over the famed vuelta abajo region in the heart of Cubas tobacco region.

In an effort to expand the succesful Edicion Limitada brand this unique cologne will sport the familiar 2008 Edicion Limitada branding on the outer packaging. Availabe at Duty Free shops worldwide this is an exciting addition to the Cohiba global brand says spokesman Hector Ramiro. Habanos S.A is proud to work with Hugo Boss in creating this unique scent for the discerning traveller.

Gunter Merkel head of product development for Hugo Boss A.G commented that this is a unique opportunnity for Boss to cross brand with Habanos S.A and reach a new custoner base. Shipments are expected towads the end of 2008"

It is interesting how companies, like Davidoff, have been able to take selling tobacco and turn it into a lifestyle enterprise. I don't know whether Cohiba can have the same kind of success given the Cuban regime controlling the cigar. But maybe in a few years, some capitalist genius might have success marketing the Cohiba brand into other luxury products.

I guess for me, I don't truly think of Cohiba (or any Havana cigar) as a "brand" unto themselves.

I always think HSA - so with something like this, I can't help but feel the parent company

is, for lack of better term, cheapening their product.
