havanaclub7 Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 I just got back from the golf course (which is why I don't have pictures) in time to write my review. This cigar was from recent stock from Czar when I purchased a couple of mixed bunches of singles during the sale (which is why I don't have box codes). Construction was pretty good. The head of the cigar seemed a little loose, although that could be because the humidity is a bit high in my packed humidor. The cigar didn't have any hard spots. Wrapper was nice -- dark and a bit toothy as well. Clipped the cap and had rich, cold tobacco flavors in the pre light. Lit the foot and away I went. Hole #1...par 4 365 yards. Just kidding! First third was very interesting. Right off the bat there were some strong and spicy flavors dancing about. Not hot like black pepper, but very rich and spicy. Was curious if those flavors would develop throughout the cigar. Along with the spiciness, there were some espresso notes and a little bit of leather as well. The cigar drew a nice volume of smoke. Second third, the spiciness went away. I was kinda sad because the flavors were so interesting and I thought they might really develop into something. However, what did develop was also very good. There were some really cool dulce de leche or caramel notes. Along with caramel, the body was also coffee and milk. Picture Starbucks Caramel Frappuccino! Although I found the initial spice flavors very interesting, I loved the coffee/milk/caramel notes a lot. Last third, the caramel disappeared and the espresso came back with still much of the milk/cream flavors as well. As the last third developed, the espresso became more pronounced and the interesting spice flavors came back as well. Over time, it would be interesting to see how those spice flavors will develop and whether the caramel flavors will hold. I really enjoyed this flavorful cigar a lot. I would give it about a 91 -- maybe a little higher if I hadn't had the loose construction with the head.
El Presidente Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Excellent review. Those came from 06 whch just goes again to reinforce to me what an overall great year it was. Along with the Sir Winston....The king of current Churchills.
Colt45 Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Perhaps my favorite cigar. I'm glad to here recent vintages are up to snuff.
bassman Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Very good to hear. I have a couple boxes of 06s put away. Still working on my 03s, though, which have been fantastic.
puros71 Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 These are one of the favorites of mine. It gives me that robust spicy classic Cuban flavor. Makes me want to pull the trigger and get me some.
