El Presidente Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Great review Dave and a beautiful looking cigar. I am looking to forward to reviewing one later this week.
Lanthor Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 »I have tried two of these, believe same box code and they are fantastic. Perfect draw, and what I want to call a clear Boli taste in that there are not a lot of muted flavors to confuse the experience (if that makes any sense).
brian1 Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 To use a wine term, IMHO these are the best QPR(Quality to Price Ratio) cigar to come out of cuba in the last number of year. Everything about these is first class from the awesome presentation, to the overall construction to the wrapper leaf used. These taste very good now and will definately get much better with age.
Leftridge Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Colt, can you email me at jamie_unt @ hotmail DOT com.. I have a few questions..
toasterhead Posted May 13, 2008 Author Posted May 13, 2008 » Great review. I have some, but have yet to try one. Colt, I agree with Brian1; these are great and "cost effective". I know you like Boli CG and wonder if you could compare the two for us sometime? (Your homework assignment:-D ) Dave

I am looking forward to trying them :-)
toasterhead Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 Bolivar Gold Medal PBS JUL 07 Wow. A 75 degree perfect blue day in Denver today. After a long Mother's Day brunch and a longer walk with the dogs, it was time to settle down with a great cigar on the back deck with a Fuller's ESB. Bolivar Gold Medal is such a classy package. This one had a flawless colorado wrapper, silky and smooth. The construction was even and firm with no hard or soft spots. I had rested the cigar for over 3 months and dry boxed it for 2 days. The initial aroma was clean clear tobacco with a hint of pepper. The draw was on the easy side with cold flavors of earthy tobacco. There was easy ignition with indirect flame, and the initial flavors were somewhat tarry, settling quickly into typical Bolivar flavors of earth and spice, sweet and delicious. The burn was razor sharp, but I had to correct one side slightly 3 or 4 times. Ah, Bolivar; earth and pepper through the nose. I really enjoy the Bolivar profile this one has it dialed in. Impressive. The cigar settles into a rhythm of earth and spice, with small hints of sweetness peeking through. Not terribly complex, but satisfying, like your favortite steak. There was plenty of thick luscious smoke, and the middle third had hints of espresso/bitterness. This phase was mostly smooth and unchanged; a little green pepper flavor shouts out now and then. Into the last third there were pleasant toasted flavors after a short bland interval. One relight and purge was needed; there was a little sweetness/shortbread flavor toward the end. This was a very solid and enjoyable cigar; the aftertaste was agreeable hours later. Score now 91-92. Cheers, Dave
