Colt45 Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Thanks, as always, for the candid review. I wish I could say I feel bad, but to be honest, I'm sitting here laughing
bobsled Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Had a box dated 12-04 that i smoked through the summer of 2006. (didn't note the code) Early summer they had a different flavor, but not swampy. More of a flowery citrus and light cedar taste. Not unpleasant but different than anything else I had smoked to that point. light to medium body. As the summer progressed, these got progressively less flavorful until it was like cardboard. Have not purchased another box since then.:-|
broozer Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 rob, you should never smoke a cuaba with less than a couple of years of age on them. if you do then you'll always be dissappointed. i have a box of generosos and exclusivos from late '07 and i refuse to even think about lighting one up. i know i'll be dissappointed if i do. those two boxes are put away until the fall of '09, no doubt. bruce
El Presidente Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 Cuaba Tradicionales OEB Nov 06 I reviewed a Tradicionales from the same box code in November 07 and found it to be good with potential. It was with enthusiasm that I opened another box of the same box code to determined if it was a fluke back in November or whether there was actually some Lazarus type recovery going on. This example had no hard or soft spots but did sport a very thin wrapper which was lifting in parts. Aroma at cold was a field of dry grass. Clipped the cap on an angle, took a slight draw...very good with no real flavours to speak of. Fired up the foot...."Bloody hell". Immediately hit by swamp grass flavours in a medium whispy body. Slightly bitter....herbal....crap. The Devil in red on my right shoulder yells "PITCH IT ROB! PIIIIIIIIITCH IIIIIIT! The Angel in white on my Left shoulder yells "NO Rob...give it a chance...keep going..patience is a virtue. I listen to the Angel in white and I keep going. Many of you fish. Picture a brackish leaf stained backwater and imagine take a sip. Tea like swampy flavours persist. Bitter on the palate, sour and a touch salty. I turn to the Angel in white and say "your kidding me". I pitch it. This Tradicional is not ready to smoke now and maybe never will be. At best...and I mean it...it will need 5 years to transform itself but there are no guarantees. Now it may be the blend is such that it needs serious time to meld and mature. I found the Generosos when young to be the same and at 6 years very good. However I can't in all good conscience recommend this cigar to anyone in the short term. I would love to read some reviews of 06 and 03 or older of this cigar. 79/100
