Charity Auction

G’day again folks,

I have some interesting news. You’ll all recall that whilst Rob was in Cuba he began proceedings to sponsor Cubanita Surf.

In aid of that cause we’re going to auction the humidor I’m building for the Roll-Your-Own-Humidor tutorial, hereinafter referred to as “The Hang Ten Humidor”.

All proceeds from the auction will go to Cubanita Surf: A surf school operating in Havana with the express aim of empowering young Cuban women through sport. Surfing provides a physical and psychological discipline as well as a rare escape from the repressive political climate in which they live. Today the club has 40 juniors sharing six boards. The proceeds from the Humidor auction will be used to purchase and ship surfboards to Havana in order that the program can be extended.

This will be an opportunity for someone passionate about their cigars to buy a unique, hand-made, French Polished Humidor.

Curious what you think shipping might be on this big boy (to USA) if it is open to folks there?

How will the auction be carried out? What format and duration?

G'day Bud,

I guess it will be open to all, but it will only be advertised to members of FOH. I'm not sure about format of the auction, It will take me a month to build and a fortnight to acclimate, so there's plenty of time to work out the details.

I suspect that shipping will cost a few bucks depending on how we ship it. I normally crate my work for delivery so this adds to the weight. We've plenty of time to work this out and I'll advise when I can.

I get pulled away sometimes for long periods where I can't check the BB - Rob will you or Lisa email me when ready to kick off the bidding?

Doubt I got deep enough pockets but will give it an honest try;-)

Just a suggestion. If it were a raffle, rather than an auction, you may raise more money for the charity. I would imagine a good many members of the forum have deep pockets, but if a reasonably priced chance were available to the average joe (and you could set a minimum number of tickets to be sold, in order to reach your goal at a minimum) you might raise more than an auction available to a limited audience.

I attended a herf recently in which they sold tickets (in person and online) for a chance at a luxury SUV, valued at approximately $45,000 and by the time of the herf, over 1,000 tickets at $100 each had been sold.

Again, just a suggestion, it's your game ;-)

The donation will be made direct to FOH who will handle the administration of funds.
