Colt45 Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 I've been a fan for years, and was recently able to see him live. Eight piece group in a fairly small club - outstanding! Only downsides were a relatively short performance and somewhat cramped seating in the club - not much room to move if you wanted to. Latin jazz with a distinct Cuban flavor - if you are a fan, I recommend seeing him live if in your area.

Lurve Afro Cuban Jazz, shame they won't be coming my way. Have to live with my sounds from the 50's such as some Dizzy Gillespie, Machito and Perez Prado:-( mel39

Did you see him at Scullers? How is that club? I have never been. I noticed he is coming to the SF Bay Area in May. Maybe I will make it out...

Maybe I will make it » out... DC, it was Scullers. It's an intimate club with good sound. The only problem is that the tables and chairs are very close together, and with this type of group if you get the urge to mambo, you're out of luck. It looks like he'll be playing quite a bit in California in the coming months. Again, if you enjoy this type of music, I can't imagine you'd be disappointed.
puros71 Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Im a huge fan of Latin Jazz. I recently saw Maraca last year at Yoshi's in Oakland and Issac Delgado at the San Francisco Jazz Festival. Gonzalo Rubalcaba will be at Yoshi's new spot in San Francsico coming in March. In Cuba Chucho Valdez is great. Check out early Irakere.
anacostiakat Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Check out the Lost City soundtrack as well. Good stuff!

I've been listening to Poncho Sanchez for quite some time, and he and the band rock! He has a great live CD. I wish I could have seen his live show.
cadillacdoc Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Bellita y Jazztumbata. Check out on youtube. Husband plays bass one handed while playing bongos, congas and high-hats. Incredible!
cadillacdoc Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 Bellita y Jazztumbata. Husband and wife heading a four piece ensemble with occasional set-ins. Saw them at la Zorra y el Quervo. The most incredible live Jazz I've ever witnessed. The club is entered through an English phonebooth on the sidewalk on la Rampa. Down the steps into a small club, music and all you can drink for five bucks.
