sje
hi FOH friends, this was a cigar review i did a while ago, a little sexist but quite enjoyable to write, i hope you find it nice to read. this was truly a magnificent cigar so please do not let the attempt of humor take anything away from this stunning stick. this is one of the best cigars i have had in a while, and although not popular in opinion i think the D2s are better than the D3 ELs. for my palate anyways. Partagas Serie D2 2003 EL Box code KMM JUL03 Stored at approx 70% since purchased in I think late 03 or early 04. Gents (and any ladies) this is my first cigar review so be kind. here we go, I have had 2 boxes for quite a while, the first notable knockout aspect of these cigars is the oils and the dark dark wrapper, So much oils that there are stained vertical lines of on the wax paper covering the first layer of sticks So much oil it feels like its going to slip right out of my fingers So much oil I could lube my car with it So much oil if you dropped one in the ocean Green peace would protest. So much oil that by now I think you all get the picture. The colour on these are one of the Darkest I have seen in the EL line, rivalled only by the 2003 Cohiba DC, and the New 2005 Monte Robusto. So dark it rivals the Ashton VSG torpedos. Boys so dark if you dropped on in a dark alley at night forget about finding it. I put my nose right onto the upper deck and inhale as hard and as deeply as my lungs allow, eyes closed I go in for a second shot, I quiver as I exhale. I sense fresh hay, a sweet aroma and maybe a hint of well worn leather. My mouth starts to water, and heart beat ups its anti. But I don’t want to light this up just yet, I want to dance with this girl a while before I ask her back to my place. She has been cut, (guillotine) and I put her in my mouth unlit and suck and chew and taste for a while. No real spice in this unlit baby just a roundness I cant describe. Now I am thinking “ ok Ima man you’re a hot cigar lets take this back to my place” and finally I light this hot sweet mouth-watering girl. Um sorry i meant to say (cigar). I get that instant taste of a fine cigar, I usually know within the first 5 puffs if I am going to enjoy a cigar or if its just another good cigar, and shazam it has begun , amazing mellow smoke fill my mouth, this baby is ON ON ON. The first inch has a mellow roundness that I can only describe as sweet and succulent, my mouth is exploding with a deepening amount of flavours, more leather and old hay for now, no real spice as yes but so far it is fantastic. My drink of choice for now is water. I want to enjoy this cigar unadulterated. The ash is a quaint mixture of deep dark grey and lighter greys, the colours are chasing each other it continues to burn, Coming to the end of the first third the sweetness and leathers are becoming stronger, there are some floral notes but not a great deal. The leathers are slowly changing into rich dark chocolate. My mouth continues to water, this is a smooth mellow strong cigar. So many conflicting flavours in this complex baby. Chocolate and dark honey, wow. Wow. The ash is not hanging on or attempting to break any world length records, but a long ash for me is overrated, these flavours are awesome. Approaching half way now, chocolate and dark honey dominating now. (they should sell these in sweet shops (or candy store for you Americans and Canadians). Cuba baby this ones all about Cuba. (sorry just teasing). Each puff creates a heap of smoke, blue smoke comes from the cigar itself, browner smoke from my mouth as I exhale. It takes a good 30 seconds before the smoke from each puff dissipates. Loads of smoke. Hints of dry grass now, but still sweet chocolate and dark honey. Surprisingly I can still sense old leather (the very good type that is). Boys and girls we are all at half way now, I say all, because I know you are all enjoying this with me. The flavours are not changing but doubling in intensity. This is one of the few smokes I have had that has matched or exceeded my expectation. To use an old Simpson’s cliché there is a party in my mouth and everyone is invited. In the home stretch now and to use an Aussie rules football term “everything is going through the middle. This cigar is superb. My Heart rate has slowed to normal, I am feeling very mellow and relaxed, with this mood I am feeling very philosophical and nostalgic, I have some chill out music in the background and thinking of old friends (mates) I need to catch up with. Sadly I can see this beauty coming to an end soon, I know out time together is short, but want to enjoy every moment I can with this amazing girl. I am still smoking and enjoying this fine cigar, I am sad but happy at the same time because although my time is up with this girl, I still have 48 of her best friends to dance with. but for now this cigar and i are best friends, although we both has to say goodby to eachother soon. this cigar is spectacular, amazing, supurb and any other supelative you can think of. sadly She is out, I smoked her till she could be smoked no more. There were no short finishing’s in this cigar, the flavours continued to intensify right until the end. And I know I will have the taste in my mouth for hours to come. I hope you enjoyed this review, it was a little bit different but fun, especially for me.

Matthew
Fun review, but not one of the ELs that I regard well; they've disappointed me, especially in comparison to the PSD3s.
bassman
One of the "lost" EL- you rarely hear about them. I really like these & would choose one over a D3 every time. Glad I bought a couple boxes (back when ELs were more affordable).

ffopusxff
Loved all 5 of the ones I had. When I smoked the first one about a year ago the others were gone within a week. Wish I had about 50 more, but many other cigars out there to smoke.:-)
