Colt45 Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 According to Trevor's site, they are a proposed Asia Pacific release for 2008. So, if they are produced, going by past releases, I'd assume late '08 or early '09. I have mixed feelings about all the REs...........

Colt45, I agree with you in the fact that I HAD mixed feelings about the RE's, but they have proven to be worth it in my opinion. Granted, I havent tried them all, but those I have - have been great. RA Eminencia is very good, PL Lonsdales are good and show great promise, RA Estupendos, while ungodly expensive will be classic down the road. The Bolivar Colosales are ok...wish they were more earthy and strong - time will tell how these turn out, but I hope for the better cause I have 47 left! I got the PL Robusto, but havent tried one yet. And I had to break down and get the VR Maestros...from some of the reviews they sound fantastic. I do think the RE's hold more weight than the Edition Limitada's. The EL's just dont do it for me.
El Presidente Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Look for them about November 2008. You have plenty of time to save up ;-) The Regional Release have been a hell of a big hit worldwide. Love them or hate them they promote discussion, controversy and at the end of the day sales for struggling Bricks and Mortar retailers.

When I say I have mixed feelings, I mean it - I'm not sure what I think Part of me wishes I could have a stash of all of them, part of me feels like I'm not missing anything by not being able to. I agree on the RA Estupendos - I'm hoping at some point to be able to acquire another box. I also have Punch Super Robustos in storage, so I've not tried them yet. But with so many REs being thrown at us, I've quickly gone from gotta have 'em gotta have 'em, to there'll be something else new coming down the line to try. I really think I'll end up focusing on a core of regular production staples while occasionally venturing out with trying something new. Of course, if I hit the lotto, all bets are off. As an aside, I'd be interested in hearing from any members who end up trying the Bolivar DC RE......

No doubt, focusing on the tried and true (and cheaper in most cases) regular production is the move I will be practicing this coming year. Its hard to justify spending X amount on RE's and for the same money getting twice to three time as many reg production cigars (like I could have gotten 3 boxes of RA Small Club Coronas instead of the box of PL Robustos!)...but **** I've fallen into the trap! Its weird though, because like I said earlier, the ELs do nothing to excite me, but the REs have a different allure to them in my opinion. Just as you say though, the REs are something I will occasionally venture into buying if they strike me, but 98% of my stock is and will be core regular production.
jdbrown Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 I told myself that 2008 I would buy two boxes of RA Estupendos and thats it. Too much great stuff out there right now. Just today I was told the June/July 07 BBF's were incredibly strong and the best batch in some time. Too many f"n choices for us.
shrink Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 I am not one of those that bash Habanos, S.A. for all of these EL's and RE's. Maybe it's because I'm a businessman at heart, but I really have faith in the free market. Habanos has a powerful marketing vehicle in these special issues, and they're getting a lot of mileage out of it. From my perspective as a cigar smoker, I really perceive the EL's and RE's quite differently from the regular production. Like most habanophiles, I look forward to these new issues with a degree of curiosity and skepticism. I read reviews by trusted sources (like Rob and Ken), and if they are uniformly favorable, I'll buy a box or two to put away. Often, I'll buy a few sample sticks too, so that I don't have to break a box. There's a reason for this... I'll often smoke the first sample after a month or three, just to size up the youthful cigar for myself. Depending on my impressions, I may buy more, or just hold what I have. Six months to a year later, I'll smoke another sample. This is when I usually decide whether to hold my boxes, start smoking from them, or sell 'em. I've never had a problem selling off EL and RE stock that aren't my cup of tea. By the time they're no longer listed by the major internet vendors, people grab 'em up. I'll admit that sometimes I've actually waited too long to start smoking from a box of EL's. The Hoyo Piramide EL is a good example. I smoked up a box when they were young, and saved another box, which I began smoking from last year. By then, they had lost much of their youthful vigor and spice. I won't make the same mistake with the recent Hoyo Regalos. They're not bad now, but I think they'll be better next year.
aavkk Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 JD, I have a box of May 07 BBF's that deliver the goods! They are just great.

You make me feel a lot better in offloading my HDM Piramide LE's. I loved them when they came out but they lost something this year. I was heartbroken (yes...I have a heart ) and have often since questioned my decision.
