Jimmy2 Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 lol Good to hear Rob and thanks for your time.;-)
greenpimp Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 I just can't get used to that band on a Mag46.
Sandman Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Thanks for the review Rob. I was really curious how a young Mag46 was smoking. I recently smoked an 05 that I absolutely loved.
Colt45 Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 I'm also hopeful that this cigar is making a comeback. No longer the mustang, now the jag?
Jimmy2 Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 I like the band makes it very sharp looking very fitting for the cigar.
Professor Twain Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 » You will have to marry her » by purchasing her first and then have a leap of “faith”. Nice review Rob, thanks. I hope that one of my friends will marry her, then I can just tap on the back door for a sweet visit when I am in the mood.
El Presidente Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 H Upmann Magnum 46 ABR APR 07 H Upmann Magnum 46 ABR Apr 07 Looks beautiful. Enticing aroma of a well worn chicken coop. Construction looks excellent. Supreme oily wrapper. Clipped the cap and the draw is perfect. Warmed the foot before applying the barest flame. Combustion was slow and deliberate. Medium full opening whit chewy charry flavour. Minimum spice through the nose. Nougat thickness to the smoke which resonates on the palate in a wood and thin cream mix. 10 minutes into the cigar and it is doing everything it can to produce real distinct flavours but it simply can’t. Just a burn’t woodiness and thin cream notes. Attempts some black coffee but it is convincing as me trying to sing an aria. 20 minutes in and while medium bodied and quite lush in mouthfeel the cigar is closed in flavour outside of the previously described wood and thin cream notes. Gentlemen….welcome to the world of the young Upmann 46. Almost without peer you have a cigar which generally refuses….point blank protests at showing any complexity under three years of age and this example is just another in a long line of headstrong, malevolent 46’s which have an almost religious fervour that you as the consumer need faith. Faith that it will develop into something special. Faith that the flavours will evolve, faith that your hard earned cash will be rewarded. It shuns comparisons to Bolivar Corona Extra who showcases its flavours even while young. I suspect it despises BCE….like an old dog barely tolerating the showmanship of a young pup. 30 minutes in and there is a showing of black pepper mixing with the dark wood. Thin cream now gone. This is a dark, brooding cigar in no mood to tolerate fools who are determined to smoke it early. It pus out what it has to in order to get the job done but it has no intention of letting you enjoy the experience. Could be a woman After 40 minutes some bitterness( the first signs) came into play and I had almost had enough. Neither of us really wanted to be here. I briefly struggled with the thought of pursuing the last inch but really I just wanted to show her the door and put it down to experience and blame Jimmy 2 for accepting the date. In summary, this Magnum 46 has all the hallmarks of flowering in 2010/12. She has all the curves and structure to do so. You will have to marry her by purchasing her first and then have a leap of “faith”. I am happy to do so as she has far more to offer than her bland sisters of 04/05 and early 06. Don’t get me wrong, this relationship will not be monogamous as you will entertain yourself frivolously with others in the three to five year interim. Think of building a Harem….the Magnum 46 has its place.
shrink Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 You're right, this really looks the part of a young, smug aristocrat
AlexOk Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 I hope it's ok if I attached my short-tasting here. H. Upmann - Magnum 46, also Apr. 2007, 25 Cabinet Appearance: Colorado. Very good construction. Visually very appealing. Cold smell: Slight toasted, raw cocoa, vanilla, floral, hazelnut Burning / ash: Cause of the wind misalignment of fire. (My fault! Who smokes in a small autumn-storm?) Gray, solid ash. Very stable. 1st third: Fresh, caramel, and scorched wood, cocoa shell, leather 2nd third: Noisette, caramel, coffee, walnut 3rd third: Toasted almond, beech, cut grass, dried fruit, pepper
