Just got home from work and Temp was 72 F with a nice breeze and lite up a stick.

Monte D just smoked one and all I can say is this is a winner.Very smooth for such a young cigar. This reminds me why I love Cuban cigars.

Chocolate flavors and layers of it ! Creamy and left nice taste in my mouth and chocolate it was. Still very smooth more than half way through with chocolate very present on my taste buds.Near the end still chocolate but a little more spice with tangy sweet fruit flavors.

All I can say is I heard a lot of people bashing the EL series in the past. The Mag 50 and Monte D are winners.Go out and get them as I said these are one of the best EL's ever made and I have smoked most of the EL Series. And what's great they are ready to smoke now just think what they will be in years to come.

I was never a big fan of the EL series but with these new releases I am starting to like them.I think Cuba is starting to get them right.

Enjoy Jimmy :lol3:

Great to see you enjoying life large Jimmy :-D

I agree with your description of the Monte D. I also think the R&J Petit Pirimide is stunning at the moment. I am not yet as fussed with the Magnum 50 but I have not really given it the chance of multiple tastings.

To be fair there have been some dud LE's.....Cohiba LE Pirimide being a shocker (again , my opinion...I know it has fans).

However this years releases are excellent. What I like is that there is tremendous flavour distinction between the releases,YET the flavour of each remains faithfull to the charachteristics of their marque (Upmann, R&J, Monte).

Mr. President, this has to be one of your many "aliases" talking here. Shame you stole Jimmy2's screen name and are shilling it up like that.;-)

Just got a box of these that are resting until Sunday. Hope they are as good as they sound.

I loved the first box i got, i had to order two more...one for now and hopefully I can keep my paws off the next one......;-)

I have 2 boxes of the initial release, they'e not even close to being smokeable yet. They do have lots of potential.

Well I guess my taste buds are far more superior to others or I just received some taste boxes of Monte D.Eather way i am a lucky man :ok:

Gotta agree. I have not had the Monte yet, but the Mag and RyJ have been great. I'll definately be picking up some RyJ's, I wish the mags were cheaper.

Well, you couldn't convince me of that.

I took one on a backpacking trip this weekend. Decided to smoke it around the campfire one evening. Damn thing was plugged so bad I thought my head was going to implode.

No way this thing ever got within a mile of a draw testing machine.

It was so bad I speared it with a titanium tent peg. Ended up throwing it in the fire and lighting up a Siglo VI.

Hard for me to imagine that they'd ship plugged EL's.

No more for me.

Waldo. Exact opposite experience for me on Sunday. Very underfilled. To the point that if you had the Monte D in your mouth you could feel it bending. On top of that, the damn thing needed re-lit at LEAST 10 times. The flavors were great though, but the construction on this one was a D minus. Hope the other 9 will fair better.

Waldo

My first experience was EXACTLY like yours. Roll was so tight I got more smoke from the Punch Margarita I smoked right before! Plus it tasted like soap to me......definetly "off"

The smell of the box was great however the cigar was a let down. I am still looking forward to see how these age. I don't usually smoke anything with less than one year of age on it, so hopefully these will come around after a while.

I've enjoyed the fiver I smoked and have a box aging but have seen them panned pretty hard. Hopefully they will be great someday, onlt time will tell

You have to try at least one out of your box thats the rule.Well my rule :-P .

Montecristo D EL 2005

Best Lonsdale I have ever smoked so far!

Ugly cigar with Brown, aged looking wrapper.....slick feeling with oil spots, good construction but ugly

Pre draw was sweet tobacco and barnyard

Initial puff was cocoa and cream.....delish :)

Flavors included chocolate, cream, cocoa, "Kit Kat" candy bar, citris hints, coffee

Ash was a nice Yellow-Grey log which was layered

Burn rate was slow and medium amounts of smoke

Rich and smooth is how I would describe this beauty, full of flavors the entire time, I really enjoyed it

Started out initially w/ sweetness that never ended

9.25/10 now..........Its aged 4 years already and the future is limitless where this can go

I enjoyed one of these magnificent cigars over the weekend, my first one ever and all I can say is WOW! :)

Pre light aroma is almost hypnotic and once lit, the smoke is full of rich cocoa, sweet leather and a little hint of salt at the start.

The feel of the cigar in my hand was firm, well constructed and had a rich dark, slightly veiny chocolate wrapper.

I am generally not a huge fan of Montecristo as in my experience Montes have a 'tang' that just doesn't agree with me, but I found this to be rich, and full of sweet flavour than the usual monte's such as an Edmundo. It is medium bodied with plenty of rich smoke, dark cocoa, coffee bean, sweet wood and did I mention Cocoa!?

Overall, this LE is very smooth with no real spice until the final third-ish. It lasted approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

I'll be calling Lise soon to order a box. :tantrum:

As you can tell from my review above, I love this cigar, so much I went bought a couple of boxes to sit for special occasions since they only come in boxes of 10, lovely flavored smoke

I'm afraid these are pretty well sold out everywhere.

If you do find any on the net, be very sure of your source,

as there are known counterfeits.

I've contacted Czars and unfortunately, there are none. :(

Lise informs me that whatever Monte D's are left around have been introduced into the aged program (Correct me if I'm wrong). Perhaps in time, we can purchase aged stock but at a higher cost. They would certainly be worth it! :ok:
