El Presidente
Leave as is Bill. The tube takes on the surrounding environment regardless.

Ken Gargett
not disputing that in practice but surely the theory would suggest that the screwcap should prevent that? anyone any thoughts or scientific knowledge? » Leave as is Bill. » » The tube takes on the surrounding environment regardless. Unless the cap end is covered in wax or some other form of sealant, they aren't airtight. Tape and empty tube to the bottom of a bowl or whatever you having lying around in the kitchen, fill it with water, and leave it overnight. Unless the tube is very well made, you should find some water in it the next day.

tmos
Sig VI Tubo isn't a screw cap Ken. Have El Prez show you one. It's more like a lipstick case than a tubo, minus the twisty on the bottom to raise the Habanos out of the containter. How cool would that be? harwellplant
» not disputing that in practice but surely the theory would suggest that the » screwcap should prevent that? anyone any thoughts or scientific knowledge? this gets bantered about alot on other boards. noone seems to have cornered the market on the science behind it, or the oils, or plume, or anything like that. mrn says that cigars age in airtight conditions like fine wines, but also seems to indicate that the airflow in cabs is the optimum storage medium. some cats actually keep their ageing boxes in shrinkwrap, which i think is a mistake. chuck is doing some sort of experiment on the subject of box v. tube for long time ageing, i think, and can probably chime in on the early stages. Ken Gargett
actually had one hidden away so dug it out and had a look (can't honestly say whether it has any similarities at all with lipstick but each to his own). see what you mean. one would think that there would be some minor transference but that it is slowed right down. » Sig VI Tubo isn't a screw cap Ken. tmos
well, if it had a twisty thing on the bottom. The cap of a lipstick pops on just like the top of that tube instead of a screw cap like the RyJ's and every other tubo. And so what if I like lipstick? Arkay
I love these cigars especially when fresh! Storing in the tubes retards the aging process but maintains freshness --all a mater of taste.
