Mr. Japan Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Last night 10 members of our club met in our local (and only) cigar lounge and we had a “blind Testing” of a Bolivar Gold Medal. After a very light meal of Italian antipasti , a plate of hand made pasta ( Fusilli ) , few glasses of our Taurasi wine I offered to the members the cigars “ nude “. It is not easy to summarize 10 “panel test” anyhow I will do it indicating the major “points” COLOUR OF CAPA : COLORADO NUANCES : GOLDEN LIGHTNESS : LIGHT CAPA : SMOOTH TO THE EYES : UNIFORM TACT : VELVET to OILY CONSTRUCTION : GOOD but one was BAD FILLING : REGULAR PARFUMS : MEDIUM AROMA BEFORE LIGHTING :MILD AROMA DESCRIPTION (Mouth n Nose) : WOOD, LEATHER, HERBACEOUS,COFFEE VOTE : 19 /20 ANALISYS of SMOKING DRAW : MAJORITY WAS PERFECT BUT ONE WAS LOOS COMBUSTION : REGULAR AND ONE VERY IRREGULAR ASH : SOLID AND TYPICAL BURN : EVEN MAJORITY, BUT ONE UNEVEN AND ONE WITH TENDENCY TO GO OUT COLOUR : WHITE AND WHITE GRAY WITH BLACK LINES SMOKE VOLUME : MEDIUM TO AMPLE COAL : FLAT WITH FEW HAVING TUNNELS VOTE : 18 /20 ANALISYS FLAVOUR n AROMA (1 light – 2 medium – 3 pronounced) FLAVOUR TENDENCY : 1° third : SALTY 3 SPICY 2 DRY 1 2° third : SALTY 3 SPICY 2 SWEET 1 TANNIN 1 3° end : SALTY 2 SPICY 3 SWEET 1 TANNIN 2 VOTE : 10 /10 AROMA : 1° third : VEGETAL 1 LEATHER 2 CHILLI 1 2° third : WOOD 1 SPICES 2 COCOA 1 MOU 1 3° end : SPICES 3 MOU 1 COCOA 2 HAZELNUT 1 VOTE : 8 /10 FORTALEZA (Strength) : 1° third : MILD TO MEDIUM 2° third : MEDIUM 3° end : FULL LITTLE DESCRIPTION 1° Third : Very salty, balanced and nice amaunt of smoke. 2° Third : Small evolution in the aromas, but big changing between sweet and Spicy 3° End : Mainly chilli and cocoa. Mike33 Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Very well done analysis and enjoyable to read. I concur that the BGM is already excellent and can't wait to have one 5 years from now.
Ginseng Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Wonderful accounting! I have to ask...what was the date code or were these FFB? Wilkey
brian1 Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Got a box of Dec 06 from Rob that were outstanding, easily the nicest young cigar I have ever tasted. These BGM's have for me been the most enjoyable and flavor loaded new release cigar of em all the last few years. I have 20 boxes of these put away, thats how much I was impressed with these. A bargain price stick for what they are and what they will become.
Guest Robusto 107 Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 HIHI, MY REVIEW ON THE BOLDED WORDS. VOTE : 18 /20 ANALISYS FLAVOUR n AROMA (1 light – 2 medium – 3 pronounced) FLAVOUR TENDENCY : 1° third : SALTY 3 SPICY 2 DRY 1 2° third : SALTY 3 SPICY 2 SWEET 1 TANNIN 1 3° end : SALTY 2 SPICY 3 SWEET 1 TANNIN 2 1st: salty 1 spicy 1 dry 1 2nd: salty 1 spicy 2 Tannin 1 3rd: salty 1, spicy 3 Sweet 1 Tannin 2 AROMA : 1° third : VEGETAL 1 LEATHER 2 CHILLI 1 2° third : WOOD 1 SPICES 2 COCOA 1 MOU 1 3° end : SPICES 3 MOU 1 COCOA 2 HAZELNUT 1 1st third: wood 1 leather 1 creamy 1 2nd third wood2 leather 1 creamy 1 spicy 1 cocoa 1 3rd : wood 2 leather 2 creamy 2 spicy 2 cocoa 2 FORTALEZA (Strength) : 1° third : MILD TO MEDIUM 2° third : MEDIUM 3° end : FULL SAME FEELING ANALISYS ORGANOLECTIC COMPLEXITY : MEDIUM EVOLUTION : MEDIUM BALANCE : PERFECT BUT SOME SAID IMBALANCED FINISH-AFTERTASTE : MEDIUM QUALITY : NORMAL TO FINE VOTE : 18 /20 Perfect taste. Conclusion. The cigar is very pleased to smoke , smooth, taste is very good for a new cigar, not too strong nor mild. The tasty is complex but I think it is well balance. The power increased moderately, not rushing. Somebody said the power jump up at the last 1/3, but I think it is very moderate, very good. I have seen many review from others, the common feedback is , EARTHY to this cigar, but I found no hint of earthy of this. Overall speaking, Woody and Creamy dominate this cigar, with a bit of leathery and Herbi and cocoa. Overall Score 95/100 Thanks:-P Rob 107:-P

El Presidente Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Beautiful work Gino I have now had plenty of BGM and I can only think that you are looking at a 6-10 year cigar. There is an essence of quality currently which gives you confidence of a solid future. Flavour complexity is a little closed right now but there is a brooding nature to this cigar which you know will translate into an explosion somewhere down the track.
avid toker Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Cigar for Amateurs?!? Not sure I'd recommend this particular vitola to amateurs. Great review though!
shrink Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 » Cigar for Amateurs?!? » Not sure I'd recommend this particular vitola to amateurs. In Europe, the term "amateur" translates to "connoisseur", not "newbie". Simply great review. Very useful.

Very useful. Thank you Shrink, I confirm your Amteur/Connoisseur explanation. Glad that this review is been appreciated, I always think that blind test (also in Wine) are the best for giving a real value of wath you smoke(drink).
