El Presidente Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 Feb 02 6 1/8" 52 Ring Gauge Second Cigar at our cigar dinner. Light tan wrapper, not overly oily but well constructed being hard to the touch but light to feel. Nice open foot. Combustion is almost like a wildfire leading to a small concern of dryness but I need not have been concerned. The draw was on the easy side which had taken me by suprise. I always expect the Upman 2 to be fuller bodied than it is but it is strictly a medium bodied cigar of great poise and charachter. Upmann coffee and shortbread is the best way I can describe it and it is a description consistant with the majority of the Upmann line. It burned impeccably well and it was thoroughly enjoyable. It is not an excitement machine in and manner shape or form. Just a true, straightforward Cuban cigar of elegance and pedigree. 88
rumrogue Posted May 22, 2005 Posted May 22, 2005 Me live-in Supermodel cum Michelin star chef (Deborah) was doin' duck (Yum). We'd got a bottle of Gevrey-Chambertin doin' it's breathin' exercises. Settle down we did with pre-dinner drinks & watched Doctor Who (a highlight of our sad pomme lives). All of which were bloody great! I've been saving this Upmann No.2 for yonks & it caught me eye as I wandered up to the sweetie box, so why not give him a go. Miles playing Jean-Pierre, a 15 year old El Dorado hangin' over ice. I love piramides. This was a beaut. Well made. Lovely mid-tan/rust colour. Small crack in the foot. Chopped the nose off. Sucked it, good draw. Lit easily & evenly. Lovely coffee & tabacco flavour. Loads of smoke.Very slight spiciness towards the end. A Cuban. No doubt. Terrific. Great way to round off the evening. (shame I tripped over the dog on the way to bed!) Note to self.......buy more. Oh yeah, the score: 91 definately

The Prince Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 I would choose the Upmann No. 2 over the Monte No. 2 every day of the week, and twice on Sunday. These are fabulous.
josie67 Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 I still prefer the Monte over the Upmann, but you know what? I had the Upmann #2 on Wednesday and DAMNED that thing was on FIRE!!
Bernard Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 How does it compare to the Diplomaticos 2 or the Serie P2? Anyone got any ideas about the best Cuban Pyramid. Would be a great dinner theme. Cheers
rumrogue Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 I am a fan of the Diplomatico No.2 & prefer it to the Monte. No.2. Comparison twixt Dip & Upmann? Mmmmm. For me it's a mood thing. I've had two PS2's since the boat got in from Feb 05. Both were outstanding. Scary!
