KB24 Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 I know this is forum is mainly for habanos but I wanted to reach out to a very educated cigar community for assistance on a non cuban favorite of mine. Anyone had these yet? I know they are a bit pricey but I was at the local shop yesterday and was talking to the guy. He told me as an AVO fan and I needed to try a 787 (Toro which is 6x50) and then an AVO Legacy which is also another limited edition, which of course I bought. The 787 is named after the box set up of 22 cigars in the 7*8*7 format. And the Legacy comes in a box of 12 with a CD from Avo Uvezian and each cigar in the box has an additional wrapper with a song name from the CD (Avo is a world famous jazz artist). Anyone know where to get a box of the 787 for a decent price? Are there any other AVO fans here? -Patrick
scmguru Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 Patrick, I'm an Avo fan and just received a box of 787 perfectos.. They're pretty nice, not quite as good as say an LE05, but definitely worth getting. I was able to get a pretty good deal on them as I've got a source who will ship them to me. Apparently, they are only supposed to be sold in-person at a shop. If you're interested, give me a shout. PS. I'm in Long Beach.. not too far from you! Mike
KB24 Posted October 27, 2007 Author Posted October 27, 2007 Mike, I sent you a private message. Let's talk. -Patrick
Colt45 Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 I will say that I feel that AVO are some of the finest cigars made, construction -wise. After that........ (to be fair, I don't mind the domaine or signature, but won't buy them again) If you like them, smoke 'em up. But for the $$, I'd be putting it toward some Bolivar CGs, or Upmann SWs, or Cohiba Robustos, or Partagas SduCs, or..........
KB24 Posted October 27, 2007 Author Posted October 27, 2007 There are indeed plenty of habanos I could buy instead of some AVO's and I have an entire list already made out for Santa, my wife, her parents, and my parents, but I thought why not have some change of pace cigars. I really enjoy AVO's and when bought on-line they are not pricey at all. For example, $116 for a box of Classic #3's which is the equivalent to a churchill. The 787's are pretty rare and hard to find and I wouldn't mind having them in my Aristocrat. That's really it, just something different. -Patrick
Colt45 Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Of course - I mean it when I say if you enjoy them go for it. I do occasionally burn an NC, but to be honest, I go for relatively inexpensive "change of pace" cigars. In this respect, I feel, for example, the Padron regular series can't be beat. But I just don't buy them anymore. I'd just as soon save up and spend the dough on some of the aforementioned cigars. (make no mistake, I've had more than one crappy Havana:-) )
BigSlick Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 I like AVO's. Got a box and a half of LE05's that are great, ageing a box of LE07's. Have one OR 22 and some Boris 11's and a few 80th's as well. Have yet to try a 787 but have a few in the humi. The go to for me is the signature series.
Ginseng Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 I really enjoy the LE05, LE07, and just got some Euro 22's. The AVO80th are kickers too. Aside from that, I haven't really had much luck with their regular lines. Wilkey
Stalebread Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 The (European) 22's I've had were very good. The 80's are smoking very nicely right now. I liked the Legacy when they first came out but, to me, they have not aged well. Have not yet tried the 787 but have heard that they are pretty good -- maybe not quite as good as the original release of the 22's (but that's just hearsay). In the regular line of AVO's, I'd go with the XO Intermezzo.
KB24 Posted November 11, 2007 Author Posted November 11, 2007 So I had the 787 Toro last night and I know that a lot of you guys aren't too interested in NC's but the 787 was a very good cigar. Nice hints of dark chocolate and nuts and very smooth throughout. The burn was straight as could be at all time and the draw was perfect, not too loose as I find in a lot of AVO cigars. I also really enjoyed the aroma. The idea behind this cigar was to create a blend that would actually make the "perfect" aroma and even my wife who hates the smell of cigars said it was better then others she has smelled. I am interested in see what a good 6 months to a year of letting the box of Perfectos I got last Wednesday rest will do.
