traveldude Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Cohiba Coronas Especiales: '2001' Box Code: unknown Length: 6 x Ring Gauge: 38 I pulled this from the humidor and was pleasantly surprised by the construction: Was pretty good with only a slight crack at the foot of the stick. (I have found at times the construction to be sub-par) IMHO! The unlit wrapper gives off very typical notes of rich, sweet tobacco and light spice. I clipped the cap and found the draw to be a bit tight and restricted but still tolerable. Upon lighting the cigar the I noticed the gentle fragrance of Mild tobacco with wood overtones and an apparent sweetness. The initial profile revealed mild creamy cedar with undertones of light coffee bean and grassiness. The second third of the stick was more medium bodied delivering mild peppery spice, creamy coffee bean with lightly sweetened grass and cedar in the finish. This profile continued until I reached the last 2 1/2 inches of the stick when hints of floral earth and vanilla joined the profile. And yes I did burn this stick to a finger scorching nub. The Cohiba Coronas Especiales is not my favorite in the Cohiba line, but I found it to be a rich and elegant smoke just the same. Perhaps a slightly larger ring gauge might have made the blend more satisfying as I favor more full bodies sticks. But in my opinion if you want that classic cohiba taste then the Coronas Especiales always delivers. Just make sure they have plenty of time in the ol humidor. ;-) -traveldude-
shrink Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Thanks, dude! One of my favorite Cohibas. Edit: IME, of all Cohibas, the CCE is closest in flavor profile to the Lancero. I've compared them, year-to-year, and feel confident in stating that the CCE is simply a Lancero in a short format. Superb small cigar!
El Presidente Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Well done Dude :-) Cohiba Corona Especiales is the cigar most overlooked in the Cohiba line. As you found it delivers a classic Cohiba profile in a short format. I was wondering what I would take with me on my trip later this week to Singapore/Hong Kong and Beijing. I think you have helped me narrow it down to Partagas 898 V, Trinidad Reyes and Cohiba Coronas Especial.
