I had an aged El Rey Del Mundo Grande de Espana a couple weeks ago, and it was a revelation to me for the whole ERDM marca. I had previously been so unimpressed, and this properly displayed the whole realm of flavors that is great in the marca, to me anyway. That delectably smooth earthiness, creamy coffee and spiced complexity along with floral notes and honey and soooo much richness and just the right amount of power.

Now when I revisit my ERDM PC's, I taste that profile when I didn't before. I bought some aged lonsdales. I've even decided my crappy box of 98 Choix Supremes were just a bad box, and will be buying some more.

So in general I am in love with a marca that I hated a little while ago. While this is the plot for every romantic comedy ever made, any cigars do that for you lately?

While not exactly parallels....

I had always dismissed the Hoyo and Quai D'Orsay marcas as too mild and therefor probably uninteresting.

A friend sent me a Q D'O Corona Claro to try and I completely changed my mind. I don't know where the "mild" reputation comes from. These are flavorsome, complex delightful cigars. I've stocked up on Grand Coronas, Coronas Claro and Imperiales.

As for Hoyo, on another board someone posed the question, "What is the sweetest Cuban cigar." The guy who wrote an Encyclopaedia of Post-Revolution Cigars suggested the Hoyo le Hoyo du Gourmet. I tried one and have gotten hooked on the Le Hoyo line, including du Prince, and Des Dieux. Woody, flavorsome, complex and with a dinstinctly sweet finish. Great morning cigars. Too bad the line has been discontinued.

News to me. I know that they'd done away with the Cab50s. When did this happen? :crying:

Van, are you certain that the Le Hoyo line has been discontinued? Including the des Dieux? If so, I've got to stock up on these. The '02s and '03s I've had were marvelous, but I'm all out now.

Matt, I completely agree about the quiet brunette, sitting on the couch at the party, who you initially overlook in favor of the more striking blonde in the center of the room. I have also had some delicious Grandes des Espana, but they've all been eight to ten years old, at least (BTW, my girlfriends were considerably older than this!).

I've been getting into more of the Rafael Gonzalez and Juan Lopez recently. Smoked a JL Corona that was complex and sweet.

I had my information wrong. Sorry. They are still being produced in 25s.

Thank goodness. I though for a moment there that I was going to have turn myself out on the street and start pimping myself to get a little extra dough to put a few boxes away. Blew right through the cigar budget for this month (maybe the rest of year, even), I did. Damn Mexicans! :-D

Well, none of these cigars would be a revelation, or even a pleasure to me, my band does have an original song called "Revelation Blues".:lol3:

I fall in and out of love with cigars. I can be found talking to an underperforming cigar liks a coach giveing a half time speach to a well beaten side. It amuses the staff no end.

One of the great recent disappointments is the Hoyo De Moterrey Le Hoyou Du Dieux. One of my alltime favourite cigars which has gone to buggery in 05 and 06 (my opinion). I loved the creamy sweet complexity of this cigar and of late I am finding nothing resembling what I have always loved. I go to select a cigar for a review and it calls me...but I don't pick up because I am still pissed off.

The Partagas 898 V howwever is the opposite. I fell out of love in 03/04 and much of 05. Lacking complexity.

Come 06 examples and I am back in love.
