I have lost the thread I read only a few days ago...............Ken bagging a purchaser of one of these releases.

Was interested on getting further comments from Ken (and other) on this.

Was the onjection:

1. Based on the cost?

2. Based on the concept of multi-brand releases? (Rob had previouusly said they don't sell well).

3. The cigars themself?

4. Just to upset Rob?.......:-D

5 Other?

PS. I have a few boxes of both, some from 2003 and some from 2006.....:lookaround:

Trevor, I believe it was the "Laundry for Guys" thread, though I don't know if it will answer your questions.

» 1. Based on the cost?

not so much. i think that if something is good enough then the price becomes a little irrelevant, though sadly that does mean one can buy buckets of them. slr dc's, cohiba genios, siglo vi's and more are all expensive cigars but they are of such quality that i have no problem. where i have a problem is where something is overpriced, and i think these are. the quality doesn't match the price, though a long time since i bought any (and i bought mine mostly in havana so they were even cheaper). all that said, my problem with these is the quality rather than the price, though i don't think they are worth the proverbial tuppence.

i think it is a terrific concept in theory and have no problem with that. great as gifts and a nice souvenir for someone who might visit cuba and not really be a smoker but would like something to take home. also terrific for beginners, in theory, to try and see what you like.

» 3. The cigars themself?

i must say that i was not even aware that they had released any from 2006 so can't comment on the quality of them. i will confess i had much more of a problem with the pyramides, which i found to be some of the most diabolically poor cigars i have ever encountered, than the robustos tho they were not much better. it seemed to me that they had taken a good idea and cocked it up by trying to slip through seriously inferior cigars. given that i think many would be purchased by newcomers to havana cigars, it seems so counterproductive. i have notes somewhere on the cigars themselves (not all as after several, i twigged what shockers they were and gave the rest to scungy mates who would be happy with bird turds in newspaper) though we are talking quite a few years ago. as mentioned, i have not seen the 2006's so hope that they got their act together and improved them.

why would anyone ever possibly think that such a thought could have ever entered my head????

»

hopefully have covered it. try a few and see what you think but i would be careful about making them special occasion cigars. might sour the event.

Many thanks for such a detailed reply.

I will try the full set one weekend shortly.
