Ken Gargett Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 After Rob’ query re the top DC’s, thought it time to drag one of these out for a check up. I think I have mentioned that friends in Havana have declared that they believe these to be one of the finest cigars made for many years and one for the ages. Superb appearance with that dark LE wrapper, construction looked excellent, well packed. Cold, the aroma was subtle, with characters like an old leather couch though quite muted. All through this cigar, everything just screamed leave me alone, I need more time. That said, what a fabulous smoke. Anyone who questions the LE program must surely have to think again in light of this smoke alone. There was an immediate richness with a nutty, chocolate appeal. Subtlety, complexity, balance, richness of flavour but never overwhelming. Lovely array of flavours throughout it. Wave after wave. Nuts, leather, nectarine, lot of spice, even a touch of white pepper, roast meats. It is immediately obvious that this cigar is something special and this continued throughout. It evolved beautifully. The burn was slow but immaculately consistent. Draw required just enough effort to make it worthwhile without ever being too tough. Goldilocks, eat your heart out. They certainly have a long haul ahead of them but if you have a few of them, think about trying one just as a tease for what you have in store. One indication of a truly great large format cigar (for me), is if when I have finished it, I want another smoke. It is rare for me to feel like that but as soon as I finished this one, I was keen for something more. Problem is that on the few occasions I feel like that, whatever comes next is a let down. This, for me, is a 96-97 pointer with a bullet. Spectacular.
n2advnture Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 great review Ken and thanks for the update! I have had high hopes for these sticks and luckily others disagreed at the time :-D ~Mark
bassman Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Nice review of an excellent cigar. Glad I had the foresight to get 2 boxes on release. If you can find them low, the price will make your wallet cry.:crying:

jdbrown Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 Ken, I am pleased to hear these are smoking beautifully with many golden years ahead! I was just able to secure a box this past week and yes my wallet is paper thin now. Back then I was too foolish as they seemed to go so wonderfully with a bottle of Dalmore Cigar Malt. This time around I will take my time!
Cohiba007 Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Bump for Ken if he sees this. Have you tried one lately? I just cracked my second box and this cigar seems to have gotten to be very mild to me.
