havanaclub7 Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 I just received my Montecristo Travel Humidor today from Czars. It's absolutely beautiful. I'm just wondering if there is anything special I need to do to "season" my humidor or to adjust the digital hygrometer. If anyone else has experience with these humidors, let me know if you had to do anything special with them. They are wonderful and I'm very glad I received mine! Thanks Lisa and Rob for the wonderful service! P.S. I also got a few singles, including the SLR DCs. It's going to take all of my will power to wait the 30 days needed before I fire up one of the SLRs. What a beautiful cigar and wrapper! I wish I was part of the testing group even more than before. I'll post my own review down the road.
Colt45 Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 This is going to be a bit of a threadjack - sorry, I don't have one. I think I may have posted this before, but I've wondered if these might ever become available without cigars, and possibly without any logos. Or perhaps an FOH edition?
Cam Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 hey i got one too they are awesomeeeee i didnt mdo anything, apparently they become pre-seasoned

Colt...HSA is unlikely to release one without cigars or without a Logo. We are always open for a manufacture to approach us for a run of quality travel humidors. We are currently working of a FOH Swiss Watch (over at Friends of ORIS) with designs due in October. We will post what we come up with to gauge opinions.
TexaSmoke Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 That is one damn nice looking humidor. What type of humidification device does it use?
havanaclub7 Posted August 23, 2007 Author Posted August 23, 2007 » That is one damn nice looking humidor. What type of humidification device » does it use? It is a damn nice looking humidor. It has a plastic tube with some kind of foam inside that you pour water in. It's very easy to use. It also comes with a digital hygrometer that seems to be relatively accurate? I'm not sure if I need to reset it at some point or if it's already spot on. The humidor itself is just like a Montecristo box with the Monte logo on the top side and the Habanos, S.A. logo on the bottom. Both are covered in leather. I really like it - hope I'll also like the Edmundos. The "toro" size is not one I generally smoke.

Justinwzp Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 Does the Monti Humi come with some trye of locking mechanism? Does it seal with a magnet? It looks nice but I'd be concerned about it opening up on accident if it doesn't have a lock or some type of clasp. I smoke a lot of Edmundos and Sig VIs so it would be perfect for me.

Justin, It seals magnetically. No worries about it popping open by accident. Plus, it comes with a hard cardboard carton with an inner cloth bag. The cloth bag has the same Montecristo/Habanos, S.A. logos as the humidor does. If you do take the humidor on the plane with you, I'd carry it in the cardboard carton just to add a little bit of extra protection. But I wouldn't worry too much about the lid flopping open.
havanaclub7 Posted August 23, 2007 Author Posted August 23, 2007 Justin, How do you like the Edmundos? I've never tried them before. To be honest, I bought the set to have the travel humidor -- the cigars were really just a bonus for me.

I've only been through two boxes (one from 04 and one from 05) and they were both great. I have an 06 box that I've had a few singles out of and it's been just as tasty as the others. You'll be very pleased. Here's a review I typed up on one from my DIC 05 box: "Pre-light draw: nice and open with spice and leather on the tongue. The smoke was pure sweet Monte smoke - pepper and Honey in the back of the throat. Excellent draw. Salt and pepper ash with a good black ring at the base of the ash. Even burn, except when I got enthusiastic and started to rush it to get more of that tasty smoke. The ash was very firm to about an inch or so. By halfway, honey and a hint of lavender notes, but a bit of black pepper built. Almost more like a Bolivar than a Monte profile. It seems like there is more ligero in the Edmundo than a Monte #2. Last third was a good, cool Montecristo taste. Nothing bitter. The pepper subsided and the smoke left a nice cool finish in the mouth. Very Monte in the nose and palate."

Tom Bolivar Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 I gots the humi and me liky a lot (the cigars too by the way :-D ) And if I got my black shoes on, I'll take the black Dunhill. ;-) And I wish that the H.Upmann Humi will come in a flashy white and orange leather. That would be really cool!
