No secret that i have been far more positive about the Limited Edition series than many (with the odd exception like the Monte C). So i was looking forward to the 07 releases, especially yet the yet to see Trinidad. Deliberately avoided reading any of the reviews until after i smoked this and made my own notes. Then compared thoughts (to see where Rob has gone wrong). The appearance for this cigar was good, the usual LE dark chocolate-coloured wrapper, which was a little rough to feel but no problem with this. Cold, it had a slight earth, dry vegetation, locker room note, even a hint of rotting flesh but in a nice way if that is possible. It was quite enticing all round. Construction was solid, indeed the whole thing gives the impression of a sturdy cigar. Cold, the draw was very firm. It opened reasonably powerfully with strong tobacco notes and an earthy note. A bit like young leather still in the process of tanning. It was slightly hard and youthful. The draw started adequately and the burn was slow. The burn soon went marginally wonky for a short time but righted itself. Not perfect but okay and nothing one wouldn’t expect from a young cigar. The burn was very slow. The whole thing took a couple of hours, which may be a good thing or not, depending on your perspective. As we moved through it, the flavours remained much as they kicked off and there was no subtlety or complexity. It remained so pretty much throughout. I must say that i didn’t really enjoy this cigar much at all, hence the comment about the time it took to smoke. As we got into the last third, there was a hint of a raisin note and a touch of black cherry but it was too little, too late. In the end, a harsh aftertaste and a hot finish. I found this disappointing. One of the least of the LE range to date and i think that money would be better spent elsewhere. That said, if you have the money or want to have a box of each of all the LE’s in the humidor, then go ahead. I think that in three to five years, this might well emerge into something worthwhile but i struggle to see it ever ranking among the very best of the LE’s. i scored it at 85-87. I see Rob has gone 88. I think that in general i score more highly than Rob so i believe that we are probably further apart than it might appear. i won't be chasing these.

Interesting. Rob said he'll be putting away three boxes, you seem to call these a miss,

though I do understand you think that they may possibly emerge.

I guess we'll see in time - though I think I'd spend the $$ on another box of

RA Estupendos........

Thanks for the review.

Ken,

When I read "locker room note, even a hint of rotting flesh but in a nice way if that is possible. It was quite enticing all round." I really had to wonder about you and your likes and dislikes.........

Then you finished with not liking the cigar. Whats up, cover-up? :lookaround:

sorry tampa, may not have been as clear as i should have. i enjoyed the smell of the thing more cold than i enjoyed smoking it. cold, it had some of that sweet meaty smell, which may sound more enticing than rotting flesh but, as they say in the classics, one man's rotting flesh...

i was disappointed. if i had endless funds, i'd take the punt on all the LE's and i do suspect that there is every chance that these will be interesting smokes in 5 plus years, but i think that there is way better value around and heaps more interesting smokes. have you tried them yet?

Sorry Ken, I have not tried the New EL's, as I am a bit of a hard critic on EL's and tend to enjoy thinner and regular production cigars more.

then don't waste your time or money on this one.

I have smoked a few now and am not overwhelmed. However, the point I made is relvent(at least to me). The Escudo's give me as much excitement as the Hermoso's did when they first came out (none). The flavour profile and initial impressions are very much a mirror image so I believe I have a map to follow on development. Hence the three boxes placed away ;-)
