skindiver Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 Well, it could be a long story, but I'll shorten it. A friend had a locker in the R&J LCDH for several years, but decided he may never return and asked me to pick up his smokes and try to bring them home. No worries, I'd just go get them(smoke a few whilst there, of course) and bring them back. The cigars I smoked there were phenomenal. Some R&J Robusto EL's, a few Hoyo Piramide EL's. I wasn't exactly hurting for smokes in Havana, anyhow. He had 2 boxes of R&J Robusto EL's,2 boxes of the Hoyo Piramide EL's, a box of Ramon Allones Gigantes, 2 boxes of Hoyo Particulares, and a box each of the seleccion piramides and robustos. Problem #1 was we just made the Cubana flight! Seems Cuban customs seized the cigars because there was no time to show receipts. Problem #2 was Bahamas airport baggage loves Cuban cigars. They informed me they'd have to remove the cigars remaining because US customs would surely find them. I finally got my luggage after ten days. Solution #1 was to tell Bahamas airport baggage that I'd be returning next week to get those cigars. Soution #2 may be to go back to Cuban customs and ask them where the hell our cigars are now! We'll see...............to be continued
El Presidente Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 Thats Ugly Skin So did you here your name called at Jose Marti Airport to come down to the concrete cellar (Customs)? Good luck. Quick piece of advice, photocopy your cigar receipt and leave it with your cigars in general luggage laying on top. The original you keep with you in case you are called down. If you are emptying a locker and may not have a receipt, the boys at R&J will "find" a blank one which you can fill out. They will show you how to complete it.
Ken Gargett Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 stan, tough stuff. in the last six times out, i think i have been calld to the bowels 5 times. had the paperwork but a real hassle. (once i might have had a few extra singles - they didn't seem worried about those). one time the luggage didn't make the flight but still beat me home. other than that, how was the visit?

You can now take 50 singles Ken as of last month. Jimmy, Putting them in your carry on luggage can be tough getting through US customs even for us Non US residents in Transit home. I haven't had a problem but I seldom leave Havana with more than 5 boxes of aged or discontinued stock for personal consumption. I throw them in my check in luggage with all the other crap and place a copy of the invoice on top of my clothes within the suitcase. I take it out and destroy it when I reach LAX and need to check the luggage in again. No receipt and they will not leave Havana. I swear they inspect every piece of luggage there is.
