Ethernut Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Monte PE I posted in another thread about trying one of my Monte PE's thsi weekend. I obtained three of them in the tiny Monte PE Collectors Huimdor (Which I'm quite proud of). They have rested for nearly three months, so I thought I'd give it a shot. (Drum Roll Please) Well, it sucked. Boring Boring Boring. .. and don't get me started on the draw. It was the worst I'd ever experienced. Imagine holding a piece of 3/4 inch pipe up to your mouth and taking a big draw. Kind of like that. I didn't even try to finish it. On the bright side though, it burned really nice! I'll let the other two sit a while, a loooong while.. CoRo I had three of these and had been waiting for them to rest to give them a shot. I serrated the cap and took a draw. Nice draw, on the firm side of perfect. I fired it up and let it cool for a few minutes to let it settle. ....and WOW, OMFG, what a freaking great cigar. Slightly sweet/creamy with intermittent hits of cedar, full bodied, almost chewy. Nice tobacco flavor. The slightest and I mean the very slightest spice in the first 3rd but it went away and never returned. I was getting TONS of smoke out of this guy from foot and the cap, it was phenomenal. The smell of the smoke was very sweet and pleasant, even a bit compelling. I smoked it down till my fingers burned and it rocked my world, I could not beleive it, this cigar did not get bitter all the way down to the end. I will normally discard a cigar early in the final 3rd, but not this one. A smoke to remember. Now if only they were a little cheaper.. ;-) Hope you had nice weekends all EtherNut
zuma Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Onya! for waiting so long to smoke'm PEs... I have yet to smoke a good MontePE (I have tried only twice, mind you)... and, on first impression, I actually tend to dislike cigars with ring gauges beyond 47 because of that pipe-in-the-mouth feel. Naturally, the ring gauge becomes irrelevant with really really really awesome cigars (IMHO) the like of CoRo and CoSi6...
anacostiakat Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 So the weekend was a push. ;-) I have only smoked one Monte PE and it was pretty good actually and I am not a big Monte fan in general. My advice would be to look for specials on the CoRo. :-D
Colt45 Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 The Cohiba Robusto is my favorite robusto - and one of my favorite cigars regardless of format.

This cigar facinates me. I have only had good experiances with it.... The first singles I smoked in 2006 were a bunch of EMS that I got, and all were good to great. Lots of spice and toffee. I broke into a box (PUT OCT 06) I got from Czar, last Friday. There were three of us smoking, and all enjoyed the PE. I must admit mine did need a couple of touch ups, but the others were fine. Not my favourite size - the ringe gauge is a little too much - but it was anything but boring. I wonder if these have gone off in later production???

Maybe I was being a little too harsh on the PE, but It was so uninteresting that I didn't finish it. I've heard mention of others with the PE Travel Humi that had similar experiences with it, maybe the production??? 'm pleased as punch with the Humi though.. ;-)
El Presidente Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Well done Ethernut I have struggled to enjoy the Monte Petit Edmundo but many have enjoyed them and continue to do so. I have come to the conclusion that they just don't fit my flavour profile (at least now) and that I am not geared palate wise to appreciate what they have to offer. there are other cigars which I also struggle with (LGC MO2) yet others adore them. Different strokes for different folks :-) The Cohiba Robusto is just a gem of a cigar.
CelticBasque Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 » The Cohiba Robusto is just a gem of a cigar. Ironically I just had my first CoRo this past weekend at the BlowinSmoke sitdown in Vegas (I'm the fat bastard at far right and front of Jadawin's photo) and, now that I've had one, I'm pretty sure I'm in love...
