Cohiba Maduro 5 Magicos POS MAY 07

Recommended Posts

So far, I have smoked 8 Genios, 2 Magicos and 2 Secretos. I was disappointed by the Secretos in which I placed a lot of hope, liked the Genios, but I think the Magicos are the best of the 3: they start out with more body and flavors than a Genios. My personal guess would be your example was indeed still wet or somehow muted.

I smoked one of these this weekend Prez...and I found it exactly as you described. Wonderful mild cigar. I was waiting for it to show me something, anything besides a mild, slight cocoa cream...but it didn't. I tried to like it. But it's just too mild for my taste. So far I have smoked a Secreto and a Magico...and found them rather boring.

I agree based on subsequent tastings. Great mild cigar but lacking a little "edge".

I found the Genios to be the pick of the litter.

Cohiba Maduro 5 Magicos POS MAY 07

This is one dusky maiden. Slick feel to the touch, slightly damp with a brooding elegance. Smell at cold is exotic sadlewood and cocoa. Construction is perfect with no soft spots whatsoever. You could stare at a cigar like this for a long time for sheer cerebral delight.

Clipped the cap and the draw was a delight. Soft powdered cocoa on the lips along with the finest of toasted tobacco.

Fired up the foot and we have a sensuous display cocoa, chocolate and cream . Delicate in this delivery, the cigar is light to medium bodied and concentratin on finesse. Complete absence of white pepper through the nose however a torrent of white smoke which has a unique aroma of sweet incence.

As the cigar progresses it shows no change in flavour delivery. All very nice mind you....cocoa, chocolate and cream which is the nirvana for many however I am looking for a hint of wild side...a tantrum...a twist...some deep stewed fruits or burst of bitter chocolate. Unfortunately none came to the very end.

Let me look on the positives. Perfect balance, great delicate flavour delivery. I think that it may be held back by its high moisture content so I have dry boxed two for a follow up review early next week. If my hunch is correct it will be a revelation. Looking forward to the experience.

If it was't for the price then I would score it a 90/100. However on balance an 88 would be appropriate. This is an indicative rating only until next week.

Totally agree. A very mild and one dimensional cigar. At the end I found myself having a H Upmann Half Corona to finish things off so to speak.

Just enjoying a Cohiba Maduro Genios (2007). What a smoke! To me this is not the powerhouse of flavor that friends have said it is but it does provide the lighter with a little extra work. Accompanied by a glass of South Australian Sparkling Chardonnay on a balmey evening in Sydney. Very pronounced dark unsweetened chocolate and nutty flavours. Its lacking the exuberance that a Cohiba normally offers and is disappointingly one dimensional - maybe a little like driving a nice sports car with an automatic gearbox on the open road. This cigar required more corrections with my surgically precise lighting tool that any glamour model of recent times. Dont get me wrong - its a great tasting cigar, but requires lots of attention due to its very irregular burn.
