zuma
Well... I'll take the plunge just for cheap shot at 3 CoRos. Forewood: As some of you may have notice, I have been hanging around here for a couple of months making inane comments at the whim of the demons that trol my mind. I am a relatively inexperienced cigar aficionado... smoking mostly CoRos infrequently over the past 5 years (and HdMDC when time allows), but I have joined the forum with a desire to get more enjoyment out of a past-time that I can't really afford (to the extent that I would want to). Background: * This is the third stick I have smoked out of four that I got in a Czar sampler pack earlier in the year (POS SEP 06)... for the sake of precedent, here's a brief review of the previous two: (1) Unreal smoke... began with a smooth sweet macchiato which started loosing milk gradually ending with a unsweetened illy espresso flavour just past the mid point (with a subtle citrus peel note). From then on it switched into a creamy coffee with black peper. Delicious except for the burnt fingers. (2) Not as good... milk coffee start, reminiscent of Monte5, but that jolted into a weid mix of chilli and coffee which I did not find pleasant at all after about the 1 cm mark... and then added a slight bitter edge... bizarre smoke, I was not able to bear it past the midpoint. It left me a bit aprehensive about the next one. Now for this one: * Midnight smoke... If I need to have a midnight smoke, I usually go for a Monte 5, tonight I am working on an important deadline and I needed a bit more of a kick. Beautiful construction as per its brothers in the sampler: Slight box-pressed character with a beatiful low-sheen veinless brown wraper and a slightly sweet toasted tobacco smell... Gillotined its head off, welcomed a perfect draw with lovely sweet note on the lips. The begining was a smooth sweet macchiato which slowly added a strong but pleasant sweet hot capsicum flavour that became quite strong near the midpoint (not sweet paprika on the lips like I get with a Connie 3, but back of the tongue chilli-like) with a subtle fruity taste which came and went. Gradually the chilli disappeared and left a slightly milky bitter mocca taste which was pleasant... Caveat: I am still struggling with flavour definitions. However, I have not been able to detect any cinnamony taste as in Rob's review of this half corona (a taste that I have often detected in the RASS)... but this little smoke really gets its horns up near the midpoint. The last one I have put at the bottom of the pile...
stever
Nice review. This is one of my favorite short smokes. Have to revisit the '06s.
Well Armed
I just smoked a whole box of these and they were all over the board. But most of them were quite delicious. Rough and full of promise. They need to go to finishing school and get their maners refined. sadly they are all ash and will never have the opportunity.
