shrink
And I thought that this one was going to be our little secret. :-| Aren't these outstanding little buggers? They have slowly but surely replaced the Partagas Short as my go-to spicy petite when time is short, but the need for something intense is long. Excellent young, with age they mellow out and reveal all those satisfying Punch flavors. This is a real sleeper. If these were Coronas Gorda, they would rule the roost. This one always flies under the radar. People don't associate power and spice with "Punch" wihich is the reason why these are so often overlooked. El Presidente
Ken popped around to the humidor this afternoon while I was out and blow and behold I found him on the deck smoking a little Partagas Short from memory....assumed stolen in the very recent past ;-). Making himself at home he had Lisa make him a toasted sandwich to accompany his illgotten loot. Just as I was about to give him a spray.....he hands me a signed copy (signed by himself) of a beautifull book, David Bailey's "HAVANA". I almost felt bad I selected a Punch Petit Corona and took up a rocking chair. Very attractive petit corona. SLightly box pressed, well filled and with a perfect amount of spring to the touch. Aroma at cold was a creamy pepper spice which twitched the nose. Cerrated the cap....great draw and a mix of quality tobacco and pepper on the lips. Fired up the little Punch and straight from the Batman cartoon series "KAPOW!" All black pepper and spice. Through the nose it could be called nothing more than a nasal assault. White pepper in droves. Full bodied as full bodied can be and a reminder that if you are seeking a powerhouse nothing packs more power than thinner ring guage cigars. Listening to Kens innane commentary on how he has done a disc in his back ( blow up doll sex can get rough) I settled back to see if the Punch could find a balance / a sense of self which would give me window to see how it would develop. Great ash, good burn and now medium full in body. Punch creaminess showing through but still laden with pepper. Very satisfying cigar to date commanding attention (not much competition) and trying to develop its creamy side. I have to say that its efforts were a little unconvincing as the black pepper dominated but it will only take a little ageing to smooth out the rough edges. What I do like is its upront flavour delivery. No need to search for nuances here, the Punch Petit Corona throws wave after wave of pepper and cream . I can't discern much of anything else bar a little worn leather. To the very end the Punch delivered. One of the finest Half Corona's I have had in the recent past and a cigar I will put in my rotation over the coming year. 90/100 5/6 Smokerings.
