Smooth
Siglo III's are my go to Cohiba... Love the size, subtle complexity, aroma and smoking time on these. My experiences with the 06's has been much the same as yours. Have had a few sensational ones with strong honey and syrup undertones and had a few ordinary ones that cant decide what exit to take on the hightway of flavour. Mike33
» Siglo III's are my go to Cohiba... Love the size, subtle complexity, aroma » and smoking time on these. Couldn't agree more. I have a box from June or July of '05 and they are really smoking nicely right now. Rob, thanks for the fantastic review and pics. I don't know if you have reviewed the Siglo IV in the recent past, but I would love to hear your take on some '06s.

greenpimp
I have had a few from my Abr06 box and found them all to be quite excellent, very intensely flavored. In fact the first was the most concentrated Siglo I have ever had (though haven't tried a Siglo V, so take that for what it's worth.) A condensed profile so thick it was like syrup, not very sweet but almost overpowering.
El Presidente
I look forward to choosing my morning cigar to smoke on the deck with the morning coffee as I answer my mail review the day ahead. This morning I chose a June 06 example of a Cohiba Siglo III. Not the prettiest Siglo III I have seen as it had a small tear at the foot. Regardless, I thought it best to put it out if its misery. Siglo III in 2006 have been a mixed blessing. Overall they have been good without being great. I can't fault them for lack of quality Tobacco or construction, but they have lacked in flavour complexity (as have some Siglo II). No doubt I am expecting too much in a young cigar but it is hard not to reign in your expectations after so many great 06 offerings which show perfect balance and complexity at a young age. Smell at cold is simply a mix of baled hay and toasted tobacco. Construction appears good. Clipped the cap and found a spot on draw. Lights are green and ready for a start :-) Torched the foot and there was almost a spontaneous combustion. I love it when this happens....reminds me of school camps, campfires and smuggled bottles of lighter fluid....BOOF!!!! ...."Joey...your pants on fire!!!.......another story for another day Medium body with sharp white pepper spice through the nose. Woody on the palate with an initial sourness which I have found common in the Siglo III and II of the last year. Mushroomy, dank (thats for you Ken) a tad confused but working out what it wants to be once it settles down. Ugly burn but good flavours now developing. Cohiba Grassiness shining through but still a sour wet wood element and mushrooms. No honey notes at this stage (a constant on the Siglo III) and I doubt they are going to eventuate. This cigar is still going through puberty and it won't be finished developing for some time. Interestingly it has mived from Medium to full bodied. Stronger pepper element showing through but it is not consistent in its delivery. Wafting, lilting from pepper to long stalks of dried grass. Sourness diminishing opening up to cleaner milk coffee note. Towards the half way point it has become distressed/confused. Pepper one minute, grassiness the next, coffee occasionally. I want to apologise for waking it early as it is behaving like your 4 year old you wake to put into the car at 2am to go home after a party with friends. It has all the elements of a Siglo III (excluding honey) just none of them are balanced at this point. Body is still above medium. An hour into this cigar and it has finally got its act together. Now strictly medium bodied with a palate balance of baled hay, milk coffee, light pepper spice through the nose and a hint of sweetened condensed milk. One can confidently say that another year or two and it will take its place as a very good Cohiba....5 years and it will be a gem. Having finished this cigar I felt like apologising to it as by smoking the Siglo III now I took away any chance it had to blossom. Yet, such an act of bastadry is my role to inflict ;-) 88/100 4/6 Smokerings now. Likely 92 within a few years.
