Mike33 Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 Almost same price..........if it were you, what would you choose? And no, I can not shell out the dough for both :-P
Colt45 Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 I can't speak on the Monarchs, but I do have a box of '00 Sir Winstons. They are fantastic - when they draw. And honestly, so far, it's been a 50/50 proposition.
shrink Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 Hmmm... that's a tough call. Do you like the Upmann profile? I haven't had the 00 SW's, so I don't know them. There is no absolute answer; it depends not only on the Monarch vs. SW argument, but on how well they have been stored, and even on the individual boxcodes. What does your vendor recommend? Here's what I know from my experience: I have had '03 SWs and '01 Monarchs AT. I definitely preferred the SWs, although they were a little "tight". I have also had the '98 Monarchs, and I thought they were excellent; toasty, nutty, with that classic "musty" taste. If the provenance has been good, you won't be disappointed with these.

To be honest, go with the box which the vendor has inspected and has given a thumbs up in terms of draw.
