shrink
Thanks, Rob, for your discerning review. More Batman the movie? :-D I think that I know what you're talking about when you say it has unlimited potential, even though it is immature and muddled. Many times I have smoked a "young" cigar, from a few months to as much as a few years old, and thought to myself, "Well, this cigar isn't ready for prime time yet, but it has undeniable substance that could mature into something with depth and complexity. "Losers" are those immature cigars that are bland and superficial. You know, the ones that mature into bland and superficial vintage cigars. Tough call. Is it worth putting down, or should RS#11 lovers look for older stock?
El Presidente
It is like a two year old race horse. All potential, great track times. I would take a share.

One of my favorites!

greenpimp
I finally smoked one from my cab of ENE06. Took some disorganized notes as I promised Shrink-o-matic. Overall look and smell of the box is extraordinary, pungent and heavy sticks very reminiscent of the Dip3's and other early 06 cigars I have. This one wih a oily, speckled wrapper, medium Colorado. Rich aroma, leathery. Rough but well made (5 caps for Gods sake, we get it.) Perfect draw, slightly tight. Smooth beginning, notes of milk chocolate, nougat and dried cherry. Decent smoke production, dense flavor and mouth feel. Dark flavors, chocolate, walnut earthiness. Roasted meat. That Punch thang showing itself. Toffee finally shows up. Early 06 flavor, that toasted nuttiness flavor present in all marcas. High quality but a certain sameness. Crack in the puffed wrapper, wetness and a large vein/stem in the binder poking through. Dark, almost over-roasted coffee coming through. Very strong. Overall I would call it a vacillating 89. I agree with Rob's racehorse analogy. This will likely be a classic but it will be years until then. Right now it is full of potential and full of confusion. To me the RS11's best suit is the flavor of dark chocolate toffee, and I only tasted that fleetingly. The tobacco is obviously first class, but the core of favor is hidden and will not appear for quite awhile. Great puchase, but only if you have the space and the time to wait. A few years from now...Much happiness. Right now, just a decent cigar.
shrink
I finally smoked one from my cab of ENE06. Well done, Matt. You convincingly echo Rob's conclusions. And you know your Punch RS#11. In these reviews, I'm reminded somewhat of the strength, heaviness and tannic qualities of a young SS#2. And we know that this cigar doesn't even become smokeable for five years, and matures in 10-20. BTW, those early '06 Dip #3 are impressive, eh? Have you had any of these yet, el Prez? They're sure going out with a bang. Someone's gotta review 'em.
El Presidente
It wasn't long ago that I waxed lyrical about a June 05 Punch Royal Seleccion No 11. What a great Corona Gorda...all Christmas mince pie (raisins/orange peel/cherries) mixed with milk coffee. A cigar which I remember still. Today I reached for a June 06 Punch Royal Seleccion No 11 to see what changes if any would be revealed. Lovely looking cigar. Bull pen aroma at cold. Firm to the touch, right weight in hand, excellent construction. Clipped the cap. Draw firm but in a good way. Clean tobacco taste on the lips with an element of baked ricotta cheese. Fired up the foot. Medium/full in body ala many of the 06 offerings. Rich mouthfeel with dominant flavours of toasted toacco, burn't toast and mushroom. Blast of white pepper through the nose. This is a darker more ominous RS11 than the 05. Meatier, sullen, closed, dark. More Batman the movie than the joviel Adam West series. Tarry, charred flavours persist past the halfway mark. Bakers yeast on the palate. Very chewy melancholic cigar. This is a surly cigar, great potential but in no mood to share its deepest thoughts at this stage. Some wet wood notes becoming apparent tapering back to the mushroom opening. This cigar is a drunken friend at the bar. Needs some time to sober up and get his head straight. Malt/oats/charred wood on the back end but all encased in a closed setting without any definitive profile escaping to make its mark. I sense it is a keeper but it will need more than 12 months. More like 3-5 years. There are no bitter harsh notes but a lingering sense that greatness resides somewhere within.....we just need to leave it alone. 88/100 4/6 smokerings. Potential unlimmited.
