I don't have codes, so posting here.

Contruction: The head was a bit mashed from transit, but otherwise, very nice. Solid.

Wrapper: Medium dark brown, smooth, with a nice sheen.

Draw: Very good.

Taste: Started with the wonderful sweet & sour spice. Definate taste of raisins with

a fruit and floral character. The surprising thing was that it stayed this way

throughout - the spice and fruit for the duration. While some would consider

this one dimensional, I loved it. Great cigar! 93 points.

» I have a box from 10/04, I agree a great cigar.

Benn smokeing strictly Cuban cigars for a few years and not until last month or so , have I tried these . Had mny 1st out of a 15 pack box I bought which lead me to buy another.

But am I wrong or is it the Monte line is pretty much the same blend?

This is the very cigar that started me onto Cigars from cigarettes

These can vary from great to just so-so within the same box. I recently had one from an 03 box that was awesome. When these are on they are like a strong espresso, with a touch of chocolate added on in.

Great smokes....the early ones had a high chance of being plugged but now with the quality controls plugged cigars are fewer... The monty 2 is a great cigar and no... not all cigars int he same range are the same...they have similar characteristics but not necessarily taste the same..... IMHO... then again just a newbie here....please correct me if I am wrong

A fine Monte 2 has a classic Coffee Cream profile in a mid body format. They have been one of the great comeback cigars since mid 2003.

It is as if Habanos s.a in the dark days of 99/2000 devised a plan to rebuild quality commencing in its benchmark cigars. The Monte 2, Cohiba Esplendido, Lancero, Partagas D4 etc have been the major beneficiaries.

Had one from '01 last night. I've smoked a number of these now, from different years, and I guess these just don't do it for me. The '01 I had last night seemed to have a very thin wrapper because it had peeled in a few places - almost seemed like onion skin it seemed so thin. Anyone else notice this on these or others?

Onion skin is a great description. Thin wrapper leaf is a great asset as long as it is pliable ie oily. Lack of oil leads to brittle wrapper.

Extremely common with 99/00/01/early 02 Monte 2's

I also have a box from 04. Well actually 6 left and it kills me to layem down but I need to see how they are in say 4 years. Note to self: Forget about those Montes.

Dude..get another box and finish what you have now.... if you age the 6 sticks for 4 years.... then when you smoke them and love them you gonna hate yourself for not aging more...

I smoked a 92 monty #2..... it was excellent...superbly powerful...and full flavoured... floored me totally.....

I had my first Monte #2 the 4th of July, 2002 and it was a HUGE disappoint.

I didn’t bother to revisit this particularly stick until this summer…. One of a half dozen singles ordered from the Czar, and it was absolutely fantastic… full of coffee and cream and hints of chocolate and just spectacular!

I'm with El P on this one, a definite 180!

Being very partial to the Piramide/Belicoso vitolas - this was my "only" cigar during my initial introduction to the world of the fine Habana....and being my first - nice memories stayed associated with the marque. I have sadly seen the taste and quality go down in the 1999 to early 2001 boxes - but then just as happily seen the return to excellence of my old friend as boxes I have from '03 on have never disappointed.

However - even in the 'bad' days - something good came from the experience as I started to branch out to other brands and really found the delights in exploring the width and breadth of Habana offerings ---- and it has been a very rewarding and enriching experience.

I had another of these with a friend over the weekend down in the OBX… I continue to marvel at just how awesome this smoke is!

Has'nt every body tried a Monte #2? I am not on them right now but that does not mean I don't have 2/3 of a box on the bottom of the big humi waiting to be rediscovered.

I had a box from 3/99 that was full of bland unintersting smokes. My current box only impresses me more with each cigar.

Had my first Monte 2 a couple of days ago. Still new to the cigar scene and just read and heard so much about this cigar..

Bought a single stick and kept it in my humi for about 3 months. Wanted to save it for the new year but it just kept calling my name....

I have to say.. it was just brilliant  .. very smooth and sweet (I'm sure they're better ways to descibe it... but like I said, still new to cigars :-P ).. I was hoping that it would last at least 2 hours, as described in the interview in CA.. but lasted only 1 hour 15 mins... am I doing something wrong here?

Like most of you, I have had some Montes that were good, some that were great, and some that were blah. I am smoking from an early '04 box that is inconsistent, and I have a full box of DEC04 from Rob that has a great deal of promise. They are very dark, strong and bitter, with underlying chocolate and citrus. My guess is that they won't really be good for at least another year. I hope, I hope, I hope.

Hour to hour and a half is about right for me. Only way I could make one last 2 hrs would be to take a nap for a half hour and relite when I a woke;-)

Why complain about how long it was going to be? Just let the experience take over and stop looking at the watch. Relax...

Just smoked a Monte #2 last night. The Cigar was some singles I bought from a 02 box (not from Rob BTW)

From the look of the cigar, it had a colardo wrapper, no veins. There were some signs of bloom, which gave it some promise.

The feel of the cigar was, for lack of a better word - solid. Very very hard would be closer. One of the firmest cigar I had.

The smell of the wrapper was great, leather and cedar. It gave a great anticipation of smoking it.

Cut the Cigar and tested for draw, which was loose. I prefer mine to be a little tighter on the draw. But this being a monte, thought I would light it first before I judged it.

Lighting it with some cedar, the flavour was absent. Very bland, burn was inconsitent. This continued for most of the way.

Finally, had to just let it die out from the disappointment. A great disappointment.

Construction: 80

Wrapper: 92

Draw: 70

Taste: 60

Summary - Very disappointed

Overall Points out of 100 - 70

If you can believe it I was gifted a 1985 Monty 2 for my last B-Day it was unreal. The others I had were o4's and I did not think they were that good. I better try them again now, Crap!!!
