Thanks for another candid review, Prez.

I've migrated from the X4 to the new Short Churchill.

Maybe you'll review one of these soon. Eh?

A first favorite for me too. Now a disappointment as well, having the same problems with a NOV 04 box. Some are on, some are off.

Love the new Short Churchill! Its everything the Ex No 4 should be.

Thanks for the great review!

Thanks for the review, prez. It concerns me a great deal though that you would rate an anal probe a 79. I think we need some clarification whether that means you've started frequenting the bath house across the street or if you've decided to join the CA review team.

 Yes, the anal probe analogy may have been a tad strong.

Interesting point Tampa.

Because I often enjoy a cigar while working/fishing/typing etc the end tends to become wet. However it is the same on all cigars I try .....appalling, bad, average, good, very good, great and superb.

All cigars reviewed are reviewed in identical situations in an identical manner.

Just come on out and call me a slobberer :-P

Tampa, I have witnessed Rob during his tasting cigars and here is a man who seems to think that he is making sweet sweet love to the cigar. Hence the slobber.

By the way thanks for replacing me with a dog!!

Romeo y Julieta Exhibition No 4 NOV 05

One of the first cigars I fell in love with. Cabinets of R&J Exhibicion No 4 were a staple. That medium body charred cherry R&J flavour

The example I chose looked impeccable. Smell at cold was rich and enticing...tobacco and maple syrup. Construction was spot on.

image2892.jpg

Cerrated the cap and found a draw which Ferrari could test Formulae 1 aerodynamics with........Fricken wind tunnel!

At this point I fell into a malaise of depression. WHY God....WHY DO THEY TORMENT ME SO!!!!!

I was immediately struck with the revellation that a loose draw on a cigar does not rate up there with a plague of locusts, famine or pestilence. "Good point Lord....sorry to bother you."

Emboldened I proceeded to torch the foot. Huge volumes of smoke resembnling a bushfire in its infancy. Everything was big except flavour. Whispy, whiny, whimpering, woosy flavours of watered down Ribena and weak Chinese tea. When they get around to faking cigars in China...this is what they will taste like.

image2893.jpg

Near the halfway point and I am enjoying this cigar as much as an anal probe. The sooner they put Warning Labels on boxes of cigars "LOOSE DRAWS KILL" the better. Light bodied with only the base notes of weak tobacco. I persist only in the name of research.

image2894.jpg

Why did I persit. Getting worse if at all possible. Still the lightest bodied Habanos I have had in a long time and with no flavour development or complexity. It will not improve with age as the draw will resign it to immortal mediocrity.

image2895.jpg

I will send the rest of the box to a pygmy tribe in New Guinea to use for their blow darts. Pitiful. It is such a shame as I love the R&J Exhibicion No 4. Just goes to prove that there are people in the factories manning the draw machines who are NOT sticking to the minimum wind resistance guidelines....only the maximum. Phooey to them. They have launched me on my next crusade.

79/100

Rob,

Do you notice that the wetter you saturate the head of the cigar, the lower your ranking and enjoyment of the cigar is? image2894.jpg

From your excellent photo coverage of the cigar reviews, I believe I tend to notice that you are a rather "Wet" lipped smoker. Whatever brings you pleasure but I certainly notice that the flavors build more sour and harsh because the oils, tar and nicotine build up on the wet end and ruin the cigar for the most part for me. I know that I tend more to "Dry" lip the cigar and avoid getting the head overly moist. When the cigar head has become that moist, I needed a second clip to remove the wetness and taste the cigar again.

Food for thought and discussion anyway.
