Professor Twain
Tonight while smoking a very nice 99 Partagas 898 Varnished, the cigar burst into flames with about 2 inches left in it! There was nothing unusual in the burn of this cigar to that point. I heard a slight popping sound, the cigar flamed up for a couple of seconds, and then returned to normal. Anyone else ever had this happen? Was this a bad joke from the roller or perhaps an old, dried up stem?
kjellfrick
I also hear a popping sound in the cigars sometimes, but I always imagined it was tobacco beetles popping....:-D You must have fired up a whole nest of them!
genevapics
You may want to stop dipping your cigars in that good old Kentucky Bourbon...:-D Can't say I have ever had that happen to me.

GTS21
Same thing happened to me with an 80s Davidoff tubo. Scary as hell. :-(
Professor Twain
I don't think it was a worm or a beetle. The ash was short at that point and I looked immediately, no shell or remnant from a critter. Just a very white patch in the otherwise grey ash. Perhaps you ran into some type of foreign seed material that made it into the cigar.

El Presidente
I haven't experienced this as yet. You would have to asssume you have hit a highly combustible spot of tobacco based on a dry stem and some dry leaf. I hope it doesn't happen while I am driving:lookaround:
