monte especial #1 yesterday... plugged as all hell and a damn shame since it looked really nice and I was so lucking forward to it after a long week. score: 60/100

H. Upmann PC today... very nice small smoke out of a box that Ive really enjoyed. Classic Upmann flavors, medium-full bodied. score 85/100

Currently in the middle of a nor'easter, but had a window of opportunity on

Saturday, and was able to smoke an RA 898V. I don't have the codes, but can get

them, and will edit.

It was an excellent cigar. I can only imagine, but when people speak of old time,

classic Cuban cigars, I think this would fit the bill.

Deep tobacco, but not overly earthy. Light fruity, floral overtones, with intermittent

hints of sweetness. A buttery mouthfeel, smooth, cool, almost minty smoke.

Full bodied, with a medium length finish.

It did have a tight draw, but smoke volume was acceptable. A straight burn,

and tight ash. Effect of the draw keeps this one at 90.

Romeo Y Julieta - Exhibicion No.4 [MAY 05]

Fine construction. Draw at cold - tobacco and molassis. Perfect draw and burn. Light spice through the nose and heaps of caramel throughout the whole cigar. Maybe a one trick pony in this regard but the trick was highly impressive. My palate was somewhat dulled by the rich meal and vino but this brought it to life. Perfect after dinner cigar. Wonder to think what it will be like with some real age.

89.5/100

SLR Regio [JUNE 06]

Probably too young to smoke but hey, my powers of self restraint are negligable (perhaps non-existant) and as the moon was past the yard-arm and I wanted to save the Exh 4s above I went for it. A good cigar but too young. Maybe 6 more months in the humidor meditating and preparing itself for the ultimate sacrifice. Whilst enjoyable (hey it's a cigar!) did not get to the heights of the RYJ so not going to bother with a score (plus can't really remember. It was late ...!)

Punch Coronation

Great value afternoon and then very very late cigar. Sufficiently mild that goes well with afternoon coffee and paper / book - not going to ruin one's palate for the evening meal. Great draw and burn. Straight up Cuban tobacco throughout. It's job decription is simple and it fills that purpose perfectly. Probably too mild to be a serious contender but at this price it doesn't need to be. 84/100. Outstanding value and a real every day cigar.

only had a PSD4 this weekend - 90/100 - it came through in the last 3rd with the standard PSD4 flavors and body, but it started off slow, otherwise it would have scored much better.

Cohiba Robusto '04 - Very erratic burn, needed to constantly correct the burn and finally straightened at the halfway point. Flavors were incredible. Didn't want to stop smoking this sucker. Burnt my lips when I took a final drag. If it wasn't for the burn, I'd have given this cigar a 91, but with the bad burn, 87.

HDM Epicure Especiales EL 2005 - Damn near perfect. Burn, construction, draw, all were just perfect. Light bodied, but with excellent fruity flavors and sweet smoke. Smoke the sucker down to a nub. Solid 92.

La Corona Petite Corona '91 - Incredible smoke. Tight draw, but burnt straight. Deceptively strong cigar because of the smooth and balanced flavors. No bitterness or harshness whatsoever. Started spicy (similar to wasabi spice), then turned very creamy with a lot of earthyness and ended with some leather and burnt toast flavors. Be the end of the smoke, my lips and tounge was tingly from the nicotine and my hands a little shaky. Best of the bunch, a definite firecracker - 94.

the weather here has been really shitty until today - rain , thunderstorms , tornados and very un-seasonably chilly .... so today was the first cigar in over a week - a cuaba generoso from 1999 - while i was grilling steaks.

perfect construction and draw - these are my cook-out cigars.

i love these little suckers with some age on them.. toasted sweet almonds was the predominant flavor with a touch of spice.

great cigar.

Partagas P2 '06: Great flavor and complexity for such a young cigar. Probably will have to get another box of these soon. 90

SLR DC '06: Second one I had from the cab. First was really special, this one was so-so. Burn was erratic and lacked a lot of the complexity of the first one. 87

Wish I had more time to smoke this weekend :-(

Punch Corona ('98) - 91/100; the Punch Corona from 98 is a complex and flavorful cigar IMO...great construction, "punchy" flavors of sweet spice and some earth

Partagas Serie du Conn. No. 3 ('06) - 87/100 - this cigar was way too young, but the potential just jumps out at you...great draw and smoke production, tastes were powerful with leather and earth and a bit of sweet spice mixed in...some citrus on the finish

Montecristo D (JUL05) - 85/100; a very good cigar with a lot of room to develop...nice cocoa on the back end, decent draw and smoke production

Cohiba Robusto ('06) - 86/100; once again, this cigar was just too young to truly show its brilliance; draw was firm, but OK, sweet grassiness with just a hint of molassas dominated

Bolivar Petite Corona ('97) - 93/100; an absolutely outstanding example of an aged Boli PC...tons of nutty flavors with toasted tobacco and earth...hint of cardamon at the end; very nice draw and smoke

H Upmann Conn. No. 1 ('98) - 93/100; might have been the best of the weekend, but I tied it with the PC...Upmann mustiness with a hint of sweetness, clean tobacco, and cardamon at the end...hint of cedar as well; perfect draw and huge smoke production

I sat outside during the spring snow shower admiring the dead gobbler smoking an 05 CoRo that was the bomb of flavor and all was perfect for an hour.

Later at the house I smoked my first Diadema, a 7 y/o Cueto given to me by Massimo, a new friend from Italy. That was two and a half hours of the best that Cuba has to offer.

Had a Partagas Lusi on Friday from May04. It was not very good at all - kept going out past the half-way point. 81/100

On Saturday, had a PSD4 from Jan06. These have really improved and the cigar is becoming more balanced. Much prefer them with a year plus age on them rather than young 89/100

RYJ Hermosos #2 EL 04- great cigar. Very floral with subtle cocoa flavors, it was really nice, burned straight, perfect draw, paired perfectly with some Warre's 85 vintage Port. The cigar, port and company added up to as close to a perfect night as I've had in a while! If I had to rate the cigar by itself, I'd give it a 93, but it's hard to keep the whole experience from skewing my judgment of the cigar!

03 Punch SS#1- smoked it while walking the dogs, another beauty! This was the first cigar out of the 03 cab. The cigar was very woody and exactly what I expected from Punch. It also drew very nicely and burned fairly well even though I was walking the dogs at a pretty good clip. I'd give this cigar a 92. However, judging by the first cigar from this cab, I fully expect this cab to mature into the 94 range. Once the flavors blend a little more gracefully, these are going to be tough to beat...

Had a RG Lonsdale from 01 this morning. It was a solid cigar, and exactly what I expected from what I've found to be a remarkably consistent marca. The cigar had a clean and sweet tobacco taste, and it was velvety smooth. It's started snowing here, and we are expecting 4-8 inches today! I can't believe it's not even October yet! Oh well, hopefully we'll be skiing by Halloween out here!
