Colt45 Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Sorry, no dates - I've had these since September '05. Construction: Firm, felt great in the hand. Foot showed a tight center, as did the head after clipping, but this turned out to be a non - issue. Wrapper: Deep colorado, a bit rough to the touch. A bit veiny, just a hint of oil. Draw: Firm and deliberate - perfect. Taste: This one was unlike any BBF I've ever had....... First puff showed a light sweetness with milk chocolate overtones. The sweetness went away immediately. The light milk chocolate stayed, and was joined by an intense sense of cherry - cherry cough drop, almost a dense fruitcake. There was some very light leather, with very little spice. This was the prevailing profile. There was a sharpness on the tip of the tongue that was not unpleasant. If anything, it seemed an enhancement - it reminded me somewhat of Nicaraguan tobacco. There was the odd hint of poppyseed here and there. I had to keep looking at the band to be sure I was smoking Bolivar. After the halfway point, it became just slightly more earthy, but the core profile remained. Medium in body, with great depth, it burned smooth and cool to the end. A long finish. Though perhaps not in true BBF character, this one took me away, and truly made my day. This cigar, on this day rates 92.
Quint Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 The few of these that Ive had with a few years on them have been excellent. What I've learn ed to be a classic Boli profile. I love this smoke.
olotti Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Nice review. In my experiences with this cigar and the BCJ and PC is that I also pick up a real cherry like flavor also along with that low down dirty Boli earthiness. One time I grabbed a BCJ after not smoking one in awhile and it tasted like I had just shoved a handful of fresh dirt into my mouth, now that's earthy. :-P
El Presidente Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 The BBF of late 02-05 would gyrate from full bodied pepper stick to a mid body concoction you swear was devised at a Pattiserie. I have had the BBF you described many times Ross and I adore them.....even if they aren't what I had come to define as a true BBF.
jadawin Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 I smoked a BBF last night from a Sept 05 box and loved it. Im down to my last few, wish i had held onto these longer, haha. I didnt pick up the cherry notes on the one i smoked, but more of that classic boli earthyness.
bassman Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Stocked up on some early 03s when released & still smoking them. Very earthy flavor. No cherry notes, but a most enjoyable cigar.
Guibou Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 I feel lucky 'cause I never had a BBF that smokes nicaraguan... Had few '01 in the passed week and it was earth, leather, spice (but more white pepper...), so to say yummy :-P !
Loki Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Nice review. I still and always will love the BBF. I can't remember ever having a bad one. Granted I've had mediocre ones but never bad.
