winelover Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Cuaba Distinguidos Origin: Cuba Manufactured: Hand Made Length: 162 Ring: 52 Smoked my second distinguidos last night, from a single cigar of unknown box code from LCdH London. Previously I had smoked a single from 03 that I very much enjoyed so I was expecting great things. This cigar is a large figuardo, in the style of old fashioned gentleman's cigars from the early 20th century. It really does look quite impressive. Unfortunately, I could tell before I lit it that it felt a bit too light for such a big cigar and from touching it, it seemed underfilled. The first third of this cigar was very mild but it was also pretty bland. I was hoping that the cigar might open up into a flavour bomb, as I had experienced previously. Unfortunately by the time I got stuck into the second third, I was beginning to experience a wildly uneven burn that needed constant correcting. I could also tell that this cigar was smoking way too fast for its' size due to being underfilled. When I got to the final third I was quite sick of this cigar and pronounced that it was one of the worst cigars I've smoked in a long time. These cigars are meant to be rolled by experienced torcedors due to the difficulty in constructing large figuardos. Unfortunately this cigar seemed to have been rolled by a complete noob who had forgotten to put any ligero leaf in whatsoever, let alone a reasonable quantity of tobacco. Big shame as I had previously really enjoyed this cigar. On this sampling - 81/100
shrink Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Thanks, Graham, for taking the time to post this review. When I am that disappointed in a cigar, I don't want to waste any more time on it, and usually just pitch it and fire up another. But you do a service to the brotherhood, here. I have found Cuabas to be too mild for my taste.
Colt45 Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 » But you do a service to the brotherhood, here. I can't agree more - reviews, good, bad, or indifferent are all of help. I've not tried any of the Cuaba line, and given the general consensus, it's unlikely I'll ever bother. Thanks for the review.
habanohal Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 I must have a few good boxes of them. I find them filled with flavor , without the harshness as the smaller ones.....i.e. Divinos, Traditioanals etc.
Guibou Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Surely not a cigar to smoke after dinner... I usually enjoy them end afternoon and before dinner... Or morning with a Mojito would do as well! Guib:-) u

Gryphon Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 I have smoked several. With each being so different. The consistancy of the Cuaba's are all over the place! I am reluctant to pursue this brand. Very disappointing.
El Presidente Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Great review Graeme. There are problems with Cuaba. It is apparent now over the past 3 years that flavour consistency is non existant. Construction is allowing too many wind tunnels which I believe is also affecting flavour intensity. The Divinos to me are the best of the lot.
