CelticBasque Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 I'm a total noob to Tequila and, thus far, the best I've had is Patron Anejo. I hear through the grapevine that Casa Noble Anejo is very good but, presently, I wanted to solicit advice from my fellow cigar lovers about a different bottle. Has anyone tried the Cuervo Riserva de la Familia and can you please offer some insight as to how this Tequila really is..? Thanks!
Colt45 Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Patron is good, but is becoming pricey. I believe they were bought by Paul Mitchell. It seems, to me at least, that they are concerned with image. You may want to give El Tesoro a try - priced well, and of nice quality. I also like Sauza Hornitos - Sauza's reposado offering. The Conmemorativo is pretty good, but is not 100% agave. I can't comment on the Cuervo, as I've never tried it, but I tend to stay away from Cuervo as a general rule - personal preference. I've never tried any of the super expensive tequilas available, so I can't comment on those either - have fun!
ccsmoker Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Patron is one of my favorites,Corazone is also one that I enjoy Casa Noble Anejo is very good but I like Silver or Blanco.Either way It has to be 100% Blue Agave.

I don't care for Patron, Sean. I love Don Julio Anejo and Don Julio 1942...it's the best in a somewhat reasonable price range.
CelticBasque Posted January 27, 2007 Author Posted January 27, 2007 Thanks for the responses so far... I definitely agree on the Patron being a bit overpriced. My observation was kinda weird but to me it seems that the Patron Anejo is very, very similar to the Cuervo Tradicional Reposado... :-| Similar color... similar flavor profile... you name it.... Anyway, I'll have to check out a few of the other recommendations that have come out of this and, again, I thank you for your input!! :-)
Little Steve Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Los Azulajos Reposado. Its priced a few dollars over potron. I have never had "great" sipping tequila till i tasted this. Simply amazing. Sweet on the noise, leaves the palate with a nice fruit tang, very very smooth. I'm a Wine, Spirits, and Cigar retailer here in texas and have done a half dozen or so public tastings with this. Always very positive results. It just goes to show how far marketing goes patron. It's difficult to find, so if you have no luck, email me and i will ask the owner who distributes it in your location. Stephen
jadawin Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Im a big fan of the Patron Anejo, just finishing up a bottle. Yes, its expensive, but not more than most of the Anejos ive found around here. Its about the same price as Don Julio ,Cabo Wabo(which i havent had but am curious about), and Corazon(another i havent tried). I was at the store lookin at Tequila yesterday trying to figure out what im going to buy next. There was another Anejo i saw that was quite a bit cheaper called 1800, anyone had it?
ThreeD Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 I'm just curious, do you mix this with anything or do you drink it the way I did in my younger years, salt on the hand and a squeeze of lemon or lime? Sorry didn't mean to stop the original questions.
fenian98 Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 If I remember correctly, that Cuervo is the one in the fancy handpainted box right? You are paying for the artwork with that one. Cabo Wabo and Herradura are a little less than Patron and just as good.

I drink it by itself in a snifter at room temp. A nice aged tequila doesnt need anything else with it IMO
xibbumbero Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Patron used to be outstanding when it first came out. For a good drinkable and reasonably priced reposado,Cazadores fits the bill. It also makes good Margaritas. Next up is Don Julio Anejo. This is a very good, not too spensive tequila. There is also Herradura which is XLNT as well. For the ultimate Tequila experience, get yourself a bottle of Cuervo Reserva de La Familia. Put it in snifter and enjoy. X:-P
strayvector Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 By far the best tequila I've tasted is the Espolon Añejo Tequila at about $45 a bottle. Tough to find, but if you do, stock up. You'll never go back to Patron again. http://www.shaw-ross.com/www/spirits/conte...x?SPIRIT_ID=114 edited to add link.
Well Armed Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 Corzo Anejo is awesome. New stuff check it out.

I actually saw that particular Anejo on the my liquor "source" website :-P Thanks for passing that knowledge and, again, many thanks all around for the ideas and advice! And, for the record, I take a good tequila in a nice, thick Bistro shot glass with no additions... :-)

el pato ahumado Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 For sipping from a snifter, there's nothing like Arrette Gran Clase Anejo, though at $100/bottle, it's clearly not an everyday indulgence. For me, anyway. For margaritas, though, nothing approaches Milagro silver. In my opinion

Cam Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 I hate tequila but i was given a bottle with a black scorpion at the bottom, dont know if anyone here knows about them, but they grow very very large and cn generally kill a man in seconds, im too scred to drink the bastard.
jadawin Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 About a month ago i tried a few new Tequilas. The first was called Trago, and it was really damn good. I had it at a tequila bar, but i havent been able to find it at any liquor stores yet. I think it might be relatively new. The other i had was called Frida, and was suggested by the bartender. I thought this one was really smooth and tasty as well, but i think i liked the Trago more

Boston Mike Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 I have been a Tequila ***** lately. One of the things I have learned is Absolutely positively stay away from anything Cuervo! The Tequila snob in me says that Patron is good but kinda pedestrian. Someone mentioned Corzo Anejo. This is one of the best Tequilas that I have ever had for the price. My number two go to Tequila is La Certeza Blanco. This is very good at a GREAT price. Asom Brosso and Corralejo Repo are must tries also. Lest not forget Milagro Special Reserve, Blanco, Repo and Anejo are all good. Also I never drink a Tequila that has to be mixed or Shot with a salt lime chaser. Those Tequilas are meant to get drunk and not sipped and enjoyed. Just my $.02. Hope this helps.

Cuervo Reserva de La Familia is a little different type of tequila. Put in a brandy snifter, the fragrance is of cognac. On the pallate it starts off w/a taste of cognac and slowly turns into a fine anejo tequila taste. The finish is long and gorgeous. Other fine tequilas for the money are Cuervo Anejo(not the reposado). Don Julio Anejo,Cazadores reposado and anejo. The fun of it is to go to a high end liquor store and hunt. Many off brands will surprise you. X:-P
smokum Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 I receved a Christmas ift of a presentation boxed Corazon Blanco. Looks like its highly rated. May have to try some. Last time I got hammered on tequila I think I saw God. Haven;t touched any since !!
