I don't get how this relates to saving lives? Walking past a couple seconds of smoke is not going to affect someone in the longterm. I swear this is just an ego thing with cities. Just so they can say we did this first or we care more, etc.

exactement! I think the ban is ridiculous and somewhat nazi in measure. It is just an ego thing you know, well i don't live there but i frequent the states for the cars :P whats the deal then? what does the new legislation state, has it been passed?

I read that some folks in LasVegas are pushing to ban smoking in any restaurants or bars that serve food. Las Vegas!

» kalifornia uber alles.......

We have learned and learned well that the thing that hurts the Nazi's more than anything....is non compliance.

I am not talking about restaurants, nightclubs, playgrounds or near children.

However, when I am in my truck by myself or with good cigar loving friends...my cigar is sacrosanct.

Fishing...same.

Camping...same.

My house....same.

Outside anywhere where others will not be bothered....same.

You can legislate all you want....but enforcement is nigh impossible.

Take great pride in rebelling against the friendless, funless, sexless, tofu eating, sycophantic, bitter and twisted pariahs of freedom.

I was sitting enjoying a cigar watching my children bodysurf at Mermaid beach. I was just outside the flagged areas downwind.

A woman in her late 50's early 60's came up and stood over me and said "It is illegal to smoke on beaches now". Well it isn't...it is only illegal between the flags...but I did not feel like an argument.

I simply, politely and calmly looked up and said " If you talk to me again I will kill you." She backed off and scampered across the sand into the middle of the crowd and I was not bothered again.

I hate these people. They will not stop. But I have drawn a personal line in the sand (excuse the pun) that will not be crossed. The line takes into account others. However from this point on I personally will not budge.

if these laws are ignored by ALL smokers then they will go away. i've been saying this for along time. just last night i said '**** it" and smoked in a bar in austin, TX where the it's illegal to do so. i figured someone has to start the resistence to this nonsense and i don't mind helping.

Great post!

**In addition to my main problems with this legislation, it takes away the sacrosanct idea of the home - unless you have a single family detached home. Kind of like saying that only the rich (or those that chose to live in a detached home) can have the luxury of smoking on their deck.
