Mark Twain Posted January 17, 2007 Author Posted January 17, 2007 » Hi » Mark Twain » What is inside the platsic cases....also where did you get the draws? » I notice some of my cigars in boxes are kind of dry & hard, but the once » out side are to moist. I have my Humi at 72... Inside the Tupperware are Heartfelt humidification beads that regulate the humidity between 60-65%. 72% is way to high for cigars IMO, you should consider lowering it below 65%. The drawer was made from three cigar trays screwed together with a faceplate and knobs attached. I made one major modification after I finally got my one cedar shelf. I moved the drawer from the bottom of the Humidor to the top and added an Oust air circulation fan to blow around the RH that seems to settle in the bottom of larger humidors. And this is how it looks today.
hazleem Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 Nice job! I'm really curios what you have written on those singles?
Lorax429 Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 Wow. that is very impressive. Very nice work. Nice collection too.
kjellfrick Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Congratulations on your humidor, Mark Twain! Beautiful piece of furniture, quite in the style I like! I'm considering to use the same sealing method as you did. My project is an old book cabinet, and I really don't think it will handle the humidity stress very well. Sealing it with thick plastic sheets on the inside and cover this with cedar-veneered board is the plan. Did you seal the plastic sheets with tape where needed?

CelticBasque Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 That's it, dammit! This weekend, I'm going hunting for antique cabinets!! :-D
EAbbott Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Very nice job Mark Twain! Creative use of an older cabinet. I've been doing it the hard way, starting from scratch. I'm going to hit some flea markets this weekend And I need to finish this one
J-ROD Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 » Those are some beauties, Eddie! Nice looking, very innovative.
Mel39 Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Job well done MT. I was going to have a go myself but after seeing yours, I've gone off the idea. I will be taking a shelf or two out of a tall pine shelf unit and build in the space. I can't find Spanish Cedar in the UK, I think it's a protected species. I've ordered some 1/4" SC boards from a US supplier. I too have bought 6 shelves from another US source. They are all made in China! Chinese Spanish Cedar eh? And of course Spanish Cedar is not Spanish. Stuff is much cheaper in the US but once shipping to the UK is added, prices practically double. Heat is my big problem. I live in a small social housing studio apartment and it gets really hot, plus it is very humid in London at the moment. At the moment I have a wet towel over my current humi and a portable fan blowing. Temperature still hits 80 at times. I have made some humidifiers from soap dishes and plant oasis and humidity hovers around 65'. There will only be one door, snatched from my matching pine PC work station. If it comes out OK, I will post a picture. If I don't post, you will know it was a disaster. I was quite good at woodwork at school but that was over 50 years ago and I may have lost the knack:-D Thanks for the pics MT, you've set an unachievable goal as far as I am concerned. Mel39

There's healthy pressure and unhealthy pressure. I don't see a reason why your cabinet couldn't work for you. You seem to have a pretty good idea of what you want to do. As for as the heat issue is concerning you, I can link you to do it yourself cooling unit. It is such generous sharing of knowledge that makes this Forum special. Unfortunately, that particular link leads to a supplier of cooling equipment in th US, that has sold out of products at the moment. However, I did learn about Peltier products that I had no previous idea of. I now know what I am looking for and have found UK stockists of these heating/cooling gadgets and they seem to be the ideal solution. Thanks again, Mel39
nugget Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 Great job mate!! I have nearly finished one myself post some photos soon.;-)
