habanohal Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 It was today after work. The Robsto from the Selecion case. I never thought anoter Monty could compare to the most flavorful #2 I had last year at a golf outing. The intense flavor of this cigar was uncomparable to any other in the line. Rob said that it has been known that some spectacular cigars have come from these cases. The CoRo was actually good also. Over the next 3 days I will try the others. RYJ , HDM, PSD. I have 6 cases left and it will be a bit of a tske not to break into them all now.:-D
habanohal Posted October 25, 2006 Author Posted October 25, 2006 » 98 Monte Especial #1 I have a box of 05s that are good. Also have 2 from 82 which I cant seem to get myself to light up
cigardawg Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 Mine is toss-up. The '97 Montecristo Especial #1 or some spectacular Montecristo Especial #2s from '04. Hard to choose.
bassman Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 94 Monte #2. I think the 06 Monte #2 is the best I've had since then. Never cared much for the Especiales.
shrink Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 Best aged Monte: '98 No. 3. Best new Monte: '06 No. 2. Boy, they're good!
Mel Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 We had some Montecristo to taste on a blind test that was fantastic and prompted me to order some. What were they Rob? I think it was a #1 Especiales. Lisa did track me down a few. That's my girl!;-)

mailman Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 i had a monty #2 '06 last saturday , i swear it was the best cigar i've smoked! i was raving about it monday at work.:-D
Ken Gargett Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 » It was today after work. The Robsto from the Selecion case. when you say selecion case, do you mean that little box of five mixed robusto's from a few years ago? they also did a set of pyramides. if so, i am staggered. i found the robusto's okay but nothing special but at least they were streets ahead of the pyramides, which i thought were some of the worst dross ever come from havana. i thought that both sets were simply done as a nice tourist offering for gifts back home. that was a good idea but i thought that they did themselves no favours at all by putting such shockers (more so the pryamides) in them. can't think that they got many new fans from it. i got some from rob and some from cuba and both as bad as the other. i must say i don't recall rob singing their praises at the time but i was keen to try them. if, however, you don't mean those boxes of five, then ignore the above.

Yes Ken, the Boxes of 5 with the HDM, RYJ, Monty, PSD,and CoRo. I have 6 boxes from 2003. They do make nice gifts also. But so far , I have smoked 1 box of the 5. I must say that the CoRo was the only one that has everbeen fantastic tasteing to me. But they have been some of the best cigars for some reason that I have had. Maybe its a mind set thing, but who knows.. Just hope the others taste as good

Maybe its a mind set thing, but who knows.. » Just hope the others taste as good half your luck. mine were all bog average, though i have been checking the notes and for both robusto's and pyramides, the cohibas were by far the best, though variable. the worst by a mile were the hoyo. checking the notes, i think that the hoyo pyramide may have received the worst score i have ever given for a cigar. these were the notes at the time - "If this cigar isn’t proof that PT Barnum was correct and there is one born every minute, then some folk will never be convinced. One can only imagine that this box of five was conceived of as a way to finger those tourists to Havana not keen to fork out for a full box. This was the worst of the five - extremely ordinary and lacking any recognisable flavour except dirt and more dirt. In fact, the dirtiest cigar I have ever had the misfortune to try. Very disappointing. Trying to get one’s head around the concept that this came from the same people that brought you the fabulous Hoyo Limited Edition Piramide 2003 is like trying to understand that Roseanne Barr and Elle MacPherson come from the same gender. 55." for the monty's, nothing exciting but not the worst. i gave all the boxes i had away ages ago so if they have morphed into something good, i'll never know.
habanohal Posted October 27, 2006 Author Posted October 27, 2006 Looks like the rollers of mine must of had a raise that day in pay :-D A little extra Ligero
