cox8884 Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Hello All, I smoked a Juan Lopez Seleccion No 1 this past Friday and was surprised at how tight the draw was. Has anyone encountered this with their Seleccion No 1's? It was incredibly smooth in flavor with an even burn, but for some reason I felt like I couldn't pull enough air through the end. I have a couple more in my humidor that I will eventually try, but I am putting an order together and didn't know if I should give them a second shot. Thanks, Cox
jadawin Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Im about halfway through a box from 05 that is smoking awesome. The draw on my box has been perfect, every single one of them.

At what % rh are you storing these cigars? I used to have draw issues more often when I kept my humidor between 65-70 rh. I have noticed once I brought my rh closer to 60% these issues became a less frequent occurrence. I have noticed that some cigars (especially Habanos) are better kept at a rh closer to 60%. Just my opinion.

These have to be some of the best constructed cigars I have smoked. I am currently half through an '03 box that are some of my favorites. As Sir Dig said, I would check the humidity levels. Also, Rob did an experiment and (I think) keeps the JL 1 very dry, as do I. I keep mine at 63% and believe Rob said 62%. Try it.
Mel Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 The two Florida boys are on the money about the humidity. Get them down to 62% for a month and try again. I have seen a couple tight ones too.
cigardawg Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I don't have experience smoking any from '05. My box is taking a long sleep. However, my '03s have smoked very well. The JL Sel No. 1 is in the top 3 or 4 corona gordas for me. I keep mine between 62% and 65%.
Freefallguy Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Cox, The JLS1 has been my go to cigar lately, without any draw concerns. I’m with the others in thinking it may be an rh issue. I have found humidification beads to be the best thing for my coolidor since the box of CoRo’s I tucked away. Dead solid on 63%rh every time I open the lid. Brilliant! I don’t know where the thread is now, but I’m sure you can find it via search. Cheers
