Well Armed
Unbelievable how much I had forgotten how much I enjoy a good Diplomatico. I used to have a bunch of 2000 #2s and they were excellent. Very refined and complex. Very mild but FULL ON flavor. I was smoking a SLRDC last night that actually reminded me of them old Dip2s. So a new box of Dip4s was met with much anticipation. 1st one out was incredible. Tons of substance for a Diplo and especially such a young one. Not as mild as I remember Dips being known for. Extremely sweet and rich mochachino toffee-sweet bean flavors. I mean, it was like smoking a candy bar. The aroma was very clean and distinct. It reminded me of the ERDM GC taster cigar last month crossed with a LGC Taino I smoked last week. But stronger at the finish and it never got harsh. When I was finished I immediately drank a glass of water and fired up another one back-to-back. Same thing second time around. They are constructed extremely well and the burn was spot on the whole time. I kept saying to myself that I could not believe how good thse new Dips are. I was floored. I must get some #2s to compare now. But for the price, the #4s are sure a good choice for those looking for pure pleasure. If you like Dips, or have just been away from them for a while, I urge you to revisit their current offerings with an open mind. Hell, approach with a narrow mind - but expect to be pleasantly satisfied.

El Presidente
Too true. There is a real consistency to the Diplomatico line over the past 18 months. Exen the wrappers have that distinctive Diplomatico red/orange hue. Someone has paid some real attention to this line in Havana.

I say it all the time, but it's hard to believe this line began its life as a cheap Montecristo alternative for budget-conscious Frenchmen, only to grow and became, in my experience, far more consistant than the Montecristo vitolas of the same size and with a much different taste. I haven't had any recent vintage No. 4's, but the 2002 ones I had awhile back just blew me away everytime I smoked 'em.
