Ken Gargett
hi jimmy, i am sure that some of the guys your side of the ditch could assist way more than me with your local bottlings as we see very little of them over here. but i'll have a go in general (have not tasted these so general comments only) - 1)Heitz Cellar Vintage 1994 - 94 and 97 are supposedly two of the napa's very best vintages so should be very good. highly rated producer - we hear more about the martha's vineyard so know very little about this. in magnum, should age very well. matt kramer, who writes for the wine spectator and new york sun and others told me, if i recall correctly, that these guys did have a dip in qulaity at some stage - not sure if that was just re the martha's - but i think it was resolved by then. » » 2)Terrabianca 1997 Campaccio Toscana Radda in Chianti - 97 also a great vintage in tuscny. probably one that could be enjoyed any time now. » 3)PahLmeyer 1997 Merlot Napa Valley Oakville - note comments re vintage above. these guys quite high level. i have a mate here who chases serious wine and manages an allocation, somehow. he gets very excited. even with the film sideways, should be exceptional. 1) and 3) could be worth many 100's of $$ each. not sure of 2). » » 4)Private Reserve Beringer 1995 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon - think this is beringer's top cab or thereabouts. » » 5)1997 Joseph Phelps Insignia Napa Valley Red Table Wine - again, a famous name and considered one of the region's best. again, big bucks. » » 6)Chateau La Couspaude Grand Cru Classe Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 1998 - this is right bank bordeaux and 98 was exceptional for it, far better than for the left bank and the more traditional wines. not a name i am familiar with but there are dozens of those from there. probably could be drunk any time for the next decade. half your luck.
