the only thing i have to go on is the MRN book and according to him there was never a montecristo CG.

Other than the Edición Limitada Montecristo C, I am not familiar with any legitimate Cuban cigar being produced in the Corona Gorda format.

Same here. Also checked Perelman's Pocket Cyclopedia of Havana Cigars and found none.
